“Many more things can be added to the circle”

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Konrot, stating that many more things can be added to the existing psychological processes in specific learning difficulty, said: “When we talk about psychological processes in specific learning difficulty, it manifests as deficiencies in speaking, reading, writing, spelling, or mathematical calculation operations. When we talk about psychological processes, basic psychological processes are much more complex. When you look at it, there are situations like motivation, emotion, attention, perception, learning, memory, thinking, speaking. Looking at this, many more things can be added to this circle. You can talk about higher-level psychological processes than basic psychological processes, but fundamentally, we encounter these.” he stated.

A Neurodevelopmental Disorder!

Prof. Dr. Konrot said; “Specific Learning Difficulty is a neurodevelopmental disorder formed by the interaction of hereditary and environmental factors in the processing of verbal and non-verbal information. Here, the question arises whether verbal and non-verbal information is synonymous with verbal and non-verbal language. Because when you refer to information as verbal, you establish its relationship with language. Therefore, if verbal and non-verbal information is synonymous with verbal language, then perhaps some focus should be placed on communication, language, and speech.” he stated.

“Communication, Language, and Speech are Important Tools for a Speech and Language Therapist”

Prof. Dr. Konrot emphasized that the concepts of communication, language, and speech are very important for a speech and language therapist. Konrot stated, “Communication, language, and speech are important tools for a speech and language therapist. Because if we cannot define whether the problem is a language-communication problem, a language problem, or a speech problem, we cannot correctly carry out some assessments and take the necessary precautions in our profession.”
