An international conference titled "Sociology and Applied Psychology in the Modern World" was organized by Ali Shir Nava'i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature in Uzbekistan. Prof.  Ebulfez Süleymanlı, a faculty member of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Üsküdar University, participated in the conference online. Prof.  Süleymanlı delivered a presentation titled "Baykan Sezer's Understanding of Sociology in the Context of Differences Between Eastern and Western Societies."

The conference, which addressed significant topics in sociology and applied psychology, attracted considerable interest.

The concept of local sociology was discussed

Highlighting that Baykan Sezer is one of the prominent figures of the "Local Sociology" movement in Türkiye, Prof. Ebulfez Süleymanlı stated: "Sezer consistently argued that Türkiye and other Eastern societies should develop their own sociology. He emphasized that the sociology constructed by the West according to its own interests does not align with the social realities of Eastern societies. This is why he referred to the concept as 'local sociology.' This perspective positions Baykan Sezer as one of the pioneers of local sociology in Turkish sociology history and among the representatives of the Istanbul School of Sociology."

East-West relations were also addressed

Prof. Süleymanlı explained that the East-West relationship, which has historically been viewed in a dichotomous manner, also contains traces of a symbiotic relationship.

"Baykan Sezer consistently emphasized that, for a proper analysis of the East, issues should be examined within the context of East-West relations and conflicts."

At the end of his presentation, Prof. Süleymanlı introduced the titles of Baykan Sezer's works to the conference participants.
