The program, attended by prominent journalists from the field, discussed the journalism profession and current issues.

The panel took place at Üsküdar Üniversitesi South Campus Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall.

The panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of the Journalism Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, was attended by İbrahim Günay, Editor-in-Chief of TGRTHABER.COM, Aydın Türkmen, Publication Coordinator of Akşam Newspaper, Pınar Aktaş, Managing Editor of Milliyet Newspaper, and Göksel Göksu, News Manager of Medyascope, as panelists.
Meryem Aydın: “Journalism is not just about reporting news, it's about pursuing the truth”
Meryem Aydın, President of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Journalism Club, who gave the opening speech of the program, emphasized the importance of January 10 Working Journalists' Day. Aydın stated; “Journalism is not just about reporting news; it's about pursuing the truth. It means being the eyes and ears of society and fearlessly speaking the truth even in the most challenging conditions. Today is the day of all our journalists who work tirelessly day and night, guided by justice and integrity.”
Selçuk Taşdemir: “Üsküdar Communication is the flagship of communication faculties”
Selçuk Taşdemir, President of the Media Academy Association (MAKDER), highlighted the importance of practical experience in the profession during his speech. Taşdemir stated; “Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication is the flagship of communication faculties. I congratulate all our journalists and journalist candidates on January 10 Journalists' Day. As MAKDER, we strive to help you convert your theoretical knowledge into practice and draw your roadmap.”

Göksel Göksu: “Today, there are too many journalists afraid to ask questions…”
Medyascope News Manager Göksel Göksu also told Üsküdar Üniversitesi students how he started his professional life and how he progressed in the process. Göksu stated; “Information is obtained from its source. We used to ask our questions to the person who needed to be asked, regardless of their position on the street. Today, there are too many journalists afraid to ask questions, but we need to overcome this and abandon self-censorship. In our time, we communicated with walkie-talkies. Now, we all have small computers in our pockets. One minute is very important for us. If necessary, deliver it a minute late, but deliver the correct news.”
İbrahim Günay: “It is a great pleasure to see the journalists of the future before us”
TGRTHABER.COM Editor-in-Chief İbrahim Günay shared his experiences in the journalism profession. Günay stated; “Seeing such a young and valuable community together truly makes us very happy. It is a great pleasure to see the journalists of the future before us. We are sitting here now, but we will probably see you in these seats in the coming years.”
Aydın Türkmen: “Accessing accurate news has become more difficult in digital journalism”
Akşam Newspaper Publication Coordinator Aydın Türkmen emphasized that journalism has moved to digital platforms. Türkmen stated; “Journalism is a profession that will always continue, and those here are very lucky in this regard. Today, journalism has transformed and moved to the digital environment, but printed newspapers should still be read for the profession. Accessing accurate news has become more difficult in digital journalism. Fully independent journalism is not practiced anywhere in the world. The newspaper is currently a source of trust…”
Pınar Aktaş: “Unfortunately, digital platforms are managed by people who have nothing to do with journalism”
Pınar Aktaş, Managing Editor of Milliyet Newspaper, stated, “Journalism holds promise for the future, but reporting on digital platforms needs to change rather than in the written press. Unfortunately, we see that digital platforms are managed by people who have nothing to do with journalism. We witness people acting without regard for journalistic ethics there, but journalism will endure.”
The panel concluded with a group photo session.
