President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, attended the Amasya Days event organized in cooperation with the Istanbul Governorship and the Amasya Associations Federation (ADEF). In the event held with record participation, Tarhan drew attention to the importance of preserving Amasya’s historical and cultural heritage.

At the event held in Istanbul Atatürk Airport National Garden, Amasya’s deep-rooted history, rich culinary culture, and traditional arts were introduced.

Ancient culture introduced to visitors

The four-day program took place within a broad framework with the participation of all districts of Amasya. Within the scope of the event, Amasya’s geographically indicated products were exhibited, and its millennia-old ancient culture was introduced to visitors.

Record participation in Amasya Days

In Amasya Days, there was intense participation from many districts and villages, especially Merzifon, Taşova, Göynücek, Gümüşhacıköy, and Suluova.
The Governor of Amasya, numerous mayors, and representatives of various non-governmental organizations took part in the event. It was emphasized that the Amasya Foundation and the Amasya Association carried out a significant organization, especially under the leadership of Turan Sayar. Moreover, Amasya Days also set a record for the highest number of visitors to date.

Amasya: City of Princes…

Tarhan, who personally attended the event and visited the stands, stated that Amasya has a historically important position as the “City of Princes”. Tarhan drew attention to the Mehmet Çelebi Madrasa in Merzifon, stating that Mehmet Çelebi, considered the second founder of the Ottoman Empire, reunited the disintegrated state within 11 years.

Preserving cultural heritage is of great importance

Tarhan reminded that Amasya raised eight princes throughout history, six of whom became sultans, and also stated that there were many Ottoman sultans born in Amasya. Tarhan emphasized that in this respect, preserving Amasya’s historical identity and cultural heritage is of great importance.

Intense interest from young people, too…

Tarhan, stating that Amasya’s unique flavors were also introduced at the event, said that they had the opportunity to taste many local products, from çörek (pastry) to keşke (a traditional dish). Tarhan also stated that they had the chance to meet old friends within the program and noted that young people participated intensely in the event, adding color to the program with poetry recitals and music events.

“Such organizations strengthen unity and solidarity”

Tarhan, stating that the event was quite productive, emphasized the importance of organizing Amasya Days every year; “Many people from Amasya live in Istanbul. Such organizations strengthen unity and solidarity.” he said.

Tarhan stated that Üsküdar University and NP İstanbul Hospital are ready to contribute to similar events and thanked everyone who contributed and supported the organization.
