“My Work” Project Awards Presented

The Closing and Award Ceremony of the ‘My Work 4’ Project, supported by the General Directorate of Copyrights of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and organized by the Professional Union of Cinema and Television Work Owners (SETEM), was hosted by Üsküdar Üniversitesi. Turkish theater, TV series, and cinema actress Gülsen Tuncer attended the ceremony where the awards found their recipients.

The opening speeches of the event, held at the Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall on the South Campus hosted by Üsküdar Üniversitesi, were delivered by Mehmet Güleryüz, President and Director of the Professional Union of Cinema and Television Work Owners (SETEM), Dr. Ziya Taşkent, General Director of Copyrights, and Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi.

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Üsküdar Üniversitesi, also attended the event, which was managed by the Radio, Television and Cinema Department of the Faculty of Communication at Üsküdar Üniversitesi.

Gülsen Tuncer: “‘SETEM first bravely defended copyright in cinema’”

At the event, which began with a presentation by Turkish theater, TV series, and cinema actress Gülsen Tuncer, Tuncer stated; “Our professional union SETEM, which first bravely defended copyright in cinema, was established twenty years ago and pioneered. This is an institution that cooperates with the state to protect the rights of filmmakers. This organization brought us health.”

Mehmet Güleryüz: “‘SETEM is undertaking very important projects’”

Mehmet Güleryüz, President and Director of SETEM, emphasizing that the main purpose of the ‘My Work’ project is to raise awareness about copyright, said; “This year marks the twentieth anniversary of our professional union’s establishment, which is very important for us. Our SETEM journey, which started with small steps, is undertaking very important collaborations internationally and on behalf of our country, signing very important projects. The first copyrights from abroad were received by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Semih Kaplanoğlu in 2010, and we presented them to them in our country. We established SETEM Academy within our own structure. The Academy aims to bring communication faculty students together with the industry. The main purpose of our ‘My Work’ project is to increase awareness about copyright, and we hold informative meetings on this topic at universities. We also share our sectoral experiences.”

Dr. Ziya Taşkent: “‘There needs to be a competition format to encourage production’”

Dr. Ziya Taşkent, General Director of Copyrights, pointing out that the project reaching its fourth year is proof that it will continue regularly, said; “The fact that this project has reached its fourth year is proof that it will continue regularly. The project being aimed at university students and young people means that the earlier you spread awareness and consciousness to the masses, ultimately, since our topic is copyright awareness, you will have provided and expanded the opportunity to achieve a healthier functioning system. Its being within the framework of a competition means that those who do not receive awards do not win. Of course, there needs to be a competition format to encourage people to produce.”

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “‘If science and art unite, we can do our part for a better humanity’”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör concluded her speech by saying; “If art and science exist together, it is beneficial for humanity and saves humanity. Because science is the information production side of the work, and art, on the one hand, is emotion, spiritual expression. If the two are together, knowledge will be beneficial to humanity; that is, if the scientist who split the atom and found its parts could have enveloped that knowledge with art, they would not have later turned it into an atomic bomb and annihilated masses. In every type of work, in every human endeavor, there must be organization and a system. If science and art unite, we can do our part for a better humanity. Otherwise, there is not much to be hopeful for. If we continue to gather here, we have hope for humanity. We are in the right place because the field of communication is exactly that. The field of communication is a place where both science and art are synthesized together.”
