Instructor Birgül Erbaş, Head of the Hair Care and Beauty Services Program at Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services, has made a significant contribution to the international academic field.

Examining the sociological dimensions of beauty perception

In her study titled “Evaluation of Sociological Criteria Affecting Beauty Perception Using the Pythagorean Fuzzy AHP Method,” Erbaş comprehensively analyzed the factors shaping individuals’ perceptions of beauty.

The research revealed that media and popular culture are the strongest determinants of this perception, while cultural norms and gender roles also stand out among the key factors. At the same time, family pressure and educational level were found to have relatively limited influence.

Media and popular culture at the forefront

The findings highlighted that in modern societies, aesthetic perceptions are increasingly shaped by media, technology, and global culture.

In this respect, the study serves not only as an academic contribution but also as a guide for the beauty and care industry.

Offering multiple important insights

While contributing to the academic literature, the study also provides valuable insights for the beauty and care sector in terms of service design, managing customer expectations, and developing training programs.
