The 16th International Agriculture Symposium (AGROSYM 2025) was held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from October 2 to 5. Researchers from Üsküdar University’s Transgenic Cell Technologies and Epigenetic Application and Research Center (TRGENMER) attracted significant attention from the global scientific community with their CRISPR-based cotton project.

The event was attended by TRGENMER Director Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan, TRGENMER R&D Specialist Beyza Aydın, and graduate students from the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory Buse Kaptan, Dilara Ülker, and Naz Ceren Ünal.
Presentation delivered at the symposium
During the symposium, Üsküdar University researchers presented a paper titled “Targeted Mutagenesis in Different Cotton Cultivars (Gossypium Hirsutum L.) to Improve Fiber Quality Through CRISPR-Based Genome Engineering.”
As part of the university–industry collaboration, the project was supported by Aster Tekstil, which also sponsored the researchers’ participation in the symposium.
The project drew great interest
Graduate students Dilara Ülker and Naz Ceren Ünal delivered an oral presentation sharing the latest findings and data from the Aster Cotton Project. The presentation received considerable attention and positive feedback from participants.

TRGENMER’s scientific work continues to advance
Throughout the symposium, interactions with academics from different countries created valuable opportunities for new international collaborations. The presentation of the project on a global stage not only showcased the progress of TRGENMER’s scientific research but also highlighted Türkiye’s growing strength in agriculture and biotechnology.
