The guest of the Sociology Internship Seminar, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, Head of the Üsküdar University Sociology Department, was Özlem Gülerler, Corporate Communications Event Manager at Üsküdar University. Gülerler, who gave internship and job advice to Sociology students, said; “There are many things done online. Combine social media with sociology and use it.”
“I studied sociology when no one knew what psychology was”
Gülerler shared her thoughts on the Sociology department: “I studied sociology when no one knew what psychology was. When I studied sociology, no one knew what sociology was. I thought a lot about what I would do, what I would become when I graduated. But after graduating, and as years passed, I realized that sociology is actually a very productive field, with fertile job opportunities. Of course, I became aware of this as time progressed. Now I say, I'm glad I studied sociology. I used sociology in different places in my life.” she said.

Gülerler stated that she benefited greatly from the companies she worked for: “In our time, there were not so many job opportunities. People usually went abroad after graduating from university because they didn't have work experience. Since I didn't have such an opportunity, I mostly worked in part-time organizations. The events during that period were certainly not like this. Students working in our department at Üsküdar University are very lucky. Since the university I attended was a state university, there were no job or internship opportunities whatsoever. I started to fill my CV a bit by working as a hostess at part-time events and participating in various organizations. After graduating from university, I filled my CV with three or five companies. These companies benefited me greatly.” she said.
“The sociology department is behind my work in large companies”
Gülerler, speaking about industrial sociology, said; “In 2007, I established my own company for events and organization. In my own company, I continued with events, organizations, and seminars in the same way. Especially in my own company, human resources departments focused on motivation also began to develop and grow. These companies moved from financial affairs or accounting processes to activities such as what kind of activities should be done for employees, and what kind of happiness should be provided for employees. Since I studied industrial sociology within sociology, it gave me great advantages. I started to implement in my own company how the current X, Y, Z generations affect society and what kind of structure they are moving towards. All sociological research, such as what increases people's productivity at work, what affects their motivation, and whether only financial opportunities are sufficient, were statistical information I learned in sociology. Industrial sociology allowed me to see how the information I gained back then is now embedded in society. The sociology department is behind my work in large companies.” she said.
