Students from Üsküdar University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Bioengineering Department achieved significant success at national and international levels with their scientific projects. Within the scope of the Falling Walls Lab Türkiye Final (DDAD), 2nd-year student Nida Yüksel secured second place in Türkiye with her project titled “Breaking the Wall of Seizures in GBM”. In the same competition, 2nd-year student Sena Çınar was a finalist with her project titled “Breaking the Wall of Cancer Relapse after Surgery”.

Üsküdar takes second place in Falling Walls Lab Türkiye!

The success achieved by Üsküdar University students drew attention at the prestigious platform, which has international academic networks and where innovative ideas compete, held at ODTÜ Teknokent CoZone in Ankara.
AI-backed solution for GBM patients
The project developed by Bioengineering Department 2nd-year student Nida Yüksel aims to offer a two-stage clinical decision support system for predicting seizure risk in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients before and after surgery.
The AI-backed system is intended to provide explainable risk scores to physicians using routine MRI and pathology data.
In this regard, the project aims to contribute to strengthening decision-making mechanisms in clinical processes and making patient management more predictable.
Innovative approach against cancer relapse
The project titled “Breaking the Wall of Cancer Relapse after Surgery,” in which Bioengineering Department 2nd-year student Sena Çınar participated as a finalist, focuses on reducing the risk of relapse caused by cancer cells that may remain in the post-operative area and are undetectable by eye.
The project aims to develop an alternative method in the fight against cancer by proposing an innovative local application-based treatment approach.

The contributions of Asst. Prof. Atakan Meran and Asst. Prof. Handan Emişoğlu Külahlı, who served as project advisors, also played a significant role in the success.
