By Üsküdar Üniversitesi Center for Combating Violence and Crime Application and Research (ŞİDAM) and the Forensic Sciences and Criminal Justice Club, Senior Major Ömer Koçelli and Retired Naval Senior Colonel Alp Lüleci spoke about their professional experiences and made statements regarding the dangers of explosive materials in an event titled “Explosive Ordnance Disposal from a SAS Commando’s Perspective.”

Ömer Koçelli: “You need to be curious, questioning, and proactive”
Speaking about the negative effects of explosions on the human body, Ömer Koçelli said; “The pressure effect creates a trauma related to pressure. One of the most important parts of the human body is our brain, the most valuable organ inside the skull. When damage occurs there, you suffer paralysis, lose your ability to speak and see. Similarly, when a shockwave hits the region carrying our vital organs other than the brain, your ribs break, they start to sink in, and your spleen is crushed. You are exposed to very severe pressure internally. This is the effect of explosive pressure. If you hear an explosion, the first thing you should do is lie down and assume a fetal position. You need to be curious, questioning, and proactive.”
Alp Lüleci: “Professional disinformation can enter our lives”
Stating that one can encounter various situations in professional life, Alp Lüleci said; “What we call professional disinformation, which enters your life, whether you do this profession or not, you will constantly encounter certain events. Most importantly, as we say in training, it is to be aware of what is happening around you. Are you walking on the road in the evening, is there a footstep behind you? Is the road you will take with your parents a day earlier deserted? How long will it take to cross that street? Is someone following us? It is about being aware of everything. Even in countries we consider very safe, people, both women and men, can experience anything.”
