European Union Support Programs Training Held

Üsküdar University R&D and Innovation Policies Directorate organized the "Horizon EUROPE European Union Support Programs Training" event. Horizon EUROPE Project Manager Meltem Bayraktar was the speaker of the program, which took place via Zoom. Bayraktar provided detailed information about the Horizon EUROPE training to the participants.

"Our Aim is to Strengthen the Project Infrastructure"

Stating that their main goal in Horizon EUROPE training is to evaluate infrastructure opportunities, Bayraktar said; "Our main goal, together with our esteemed lecturers here, is to strengthen our university's project infrastructure, ensure higher quality projects are carried out, and evaluate project opportunities available in the European Union."

Transition to a Carbon-Free Economy Targeted by 2050...

Referring to the Horizon2020 Green Deal (Green Conciliation) calls, Meltem Bayraktar said; "The aim is to support an R&D and innovation-based growth approach for the transition to a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy. As part of an initiative by European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union aims to complete its transition to a carbon-free economy by 2050. To achieve this goal, a sustainable European investment plan has been published. And within the scope of this plan, it has opened up the EU budget of 1 Trillion Euros until 2027 for projects in this area. This includes chain projects from start to finish."

"We Joined the Horizon EUROPE Program"

Continuing her words, Bayraktar spoke about the functionality of organizations within the scope of European Union Support Programs; "TÜBİTAK initially invests money because these budgets come from there. In addition, there are various organizations. These organizations invest a certain fund here. Then, with the projects we carry out, we get the money back from this fund. With TÜBİTAK's support, we had many projects that won funds at the end of 2020. We got our invested money back. For 2021, TÜBİTAK again put a certain amount of money into this pool. And that's why we joined the newly launched Horizon EUROPE program. Within the scope of this program, we will contribute to our university and our country by undertaking new projects."

"New Targets Are Being Set for Global Warming"

Emphasizing the importance of climate change, Meltem Bayraktar said; "Unemployment, poverty, and global problems are increasing in Europe. New targets are being set for this. The main vision is sustainable development goals. It is stated that knowledge and skills are the main resources. As universities and companies, we want to be partners in these projects because we share a common geography with Europe. Contributions in this regard will also benefit us. Raising employment is always about projects undertaken to make socio-economic models sustainable."
