The additional preference period, which started on September 12, continues until Sunday, September 17, at 23.59. Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan, Director of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO), states that candidates who have not yet been placed in a program should make good use of this additional preference opportunity. Karahan reminded that many programs offer opportunities for candidates who want to work in the healthcare sector, are enthusiastic about this field, and want to continuously improve themselves, adding that students making choices after thoroughly examining the relevant programs is important for their future.
Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan, Director of Üsküdar University SHMYO, stated that employment opportunities in the healthcare sector always continue, and especially, the employment rates of health technicians graduating from associate degree programs, which fill an important area in this sector, are quite high compared to other fields.
Students are prepared for the sector with 36 programs
Prof. Dr. Karahan explained that Üsküdar University, whose theme is ‘health’, prepares students for a sector with high employment opportunities through its experience in this field, and continued:
“As SHMYO, we are among Turkey's most comprehensive SHMYOs with 36 programs. Our students graduate from our programs with courses taught in internationally standardized curricula and practical opportunities in our laboratories equipped with up-to-date technology. As a country, we always attach importance to contributing to the quality of healthcare services, where we are a pioneer in the world, with our graduate technicians who are qualified health professionals.”
Job opportunities in public and private sectors in civil defense search and rescue…
Stating that there are programs with different job descriptions within the Vocational School of Health Services, Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan said that one of them is the Emergency and Disaster Management program. Karahan continued:
“Recently, we have been experiencing various disasters that we have witnessed closely. On this occasion, I would like to extend my best wishes to all our citizens as a country. It is very important to take precautions such as education, awareness, and project development before different types of disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, avalanches, and landslides. Afterwards, in the event of a disaster, the coordination process is very valuable. Therefore, we train innovative, research-oriented, and entrepreneurial graduates who are equipped with comprehensive knowledge and skills related to their profession to carry out and manage all kinds of loss reduction activities. These graduates have employment opportunities in many public and private sectors, especially in civil defense search and rescue unit directorates.”
Employment opportunities in operating room units of private and public hospitals…
Prof. Dr. Karahan noted that students graduating from the Operating Room Services program are heavily employed in the operating room units of private and public hospitals, and provided the following information:
“Graduates of this program work as assistant surgical health personnel who prepare all surgical materials used in the operating room, assist the surgical team during the surgical procedure if and as deemed appropriate by the physician, and then ensure the sterilization of equipment to prepare for a new surgical process. Therefore, the opportunity for employment in many hospitals is high.”
What do environmental health graduates do?
Prof. Dr. Karahan provided information about the Environmental Health Program, stating:
“Our students graduating from the Environmental Health program are individuals who work as assistants to environmental engineers in the protection of the productivity of natural resources and the arrangement of the environment in a manner suitable for human health and well-being. Employment opportunities are available in various units affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, municipalities, and certain institutions and organizations such as SEKA, Perkim, and İGDAŞ.”
Associate degree graduates are very advantageous…
Stating that there are also very important areas of work for students who successfully complete the Medical Imaging Techniques Program, Prof. Dr. Karahan continued:
“The working areas are very important and extensive in the healthcare sector. Furthermore, since the program is not a 4-year department, the responsibilities of our graduate technicians to take on tasks in the field are also important. Our students graduating from Medical Imaging Techniques find employment in units such as direct films (X-rays), Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Mammography requested for disease diagnosis, or in the preparation and application of devices for patients undergoing radiation therapy, and in various units of the Nuclear Medicine department.”
