The Nursing Club operating under the Health, Culture and Sports Directorate of Üsküdar University organized a symposium titled “Nursing Students Symposium: Artificial Intelligence in Nursing.” During the symposium, nursing students presented their studies focusing on the contributions of artificial intelligence to professional nursing practices. As part of the event, the “Design with AI: Artificial Intelligence and Nursing Poster Competition” was also held, and successful posters were awarded.

The symposium, hosted at the Ibn Sina Auditorium of the NP Health Campus, attracted strong interest from faculty members and students.

Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: “If we do not use it rationally, it will start using us”

The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Referring to the historical development of technology, Ertekin emphasized the impact of artificial intelligence on daily life and professional fields.

He stated that artificial intelligence, when used rationally, can greatly simplify life and provide significant benefits. However, if not used wisely, it may turn into a structure that directs people within five to ten years. Emphasizing the rapid development of AI and its presence in all areas of life, Ertekin underlined the importance of using this technology efficiently and consciously without allowing it to turn into digital dependency.

Prof. Selma Doğan: “People will always need us”

Prof. Selma Doğan, Head of the Department of Nursing, addressed concerns that artificial intelligence might replace nursing. She noted that while AI has entered daily life very quickly, risks may arise if professional awareness, AI literacy, and professional competence are not sufficiently developed.

Doğan emphasized that nursing is a profession centered on human interaction, emotions, and constantly changing dynamics. While the technical aspects of artificial intelligence can be utilized, she stressed that patients and society will always need nurses.

Presentations highlighted multiple dimensions of AI in nursing

Following the opening remarks, presentations explored artificial intelligence from various perspectives, including nursing education, care processes, research, ethics, and data security.

In the first session, chaired by Asst. Prof. Hatice Demirdağ and Instructor Derya Deniz, third-year nursing students Orçun Enes Batal and Rahime Gamze Görmüş delivered a presentation titled “What Is Artificial Intelligence? What Is It Not?”

Subsequent presentations included:
