An “Anesthesia Day” event was organized by the Anesthesia Program of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS) in cooperation with the Health, Culture and Sports (HCS) Department Anesthesia Club. The event addressed professional career paths in anesthesia technology, professional development processes, real-life field experiences, and future-oriented recommendations. Instructor Ahmet Emre Azaklı from the Anesthesia Program participated as the guest speaker.

Held at the Emirnebi 1 Conference Hall at Üsküdar University’s Çarşı Campus, the event attracted strong interest from students.

Instructor Merve Aydın Karabaş: “Anesthesia technicians are an indispensable part of the healthcare system”
The opening speech was delivered by Instructor Merve Aydın Karabaş, Head of the VSHS Anesthesia Program, who shared valuable advice with students. Emphasizing that students should develop not only technically, theoretically, and practically but also intellectually, Karabaş stated: “Anesthesia is a field that requires a high level of responsibility, ensuring the surgeon’s safety, the patient’s comfort, and the most critical balance between life and medical intervention. Anesthesia technicians, the unseen heroes of this field, are an indispensable part of the healthcare system through their knowledge, attention, and team spirit. In professions that directly touch human life, you give a great deal of yourself, and this requires continuous self-development. As you will often be the first healthcare professionals patients encounter in the operating room, your attitude toward the patient and how you develop empathy are truly crucial. These commemorations are not held merely to gather together, but to help you recognize once again how valuable and meaningful your profession truly is.”

Instructor Ahmet Emre Azaklı: “Everyone should compete with who they were yesterday”
Instructor Ahmet Emre Azaklı shared his career journey, academic achievements, and professional experiences with the students. Highlighting the critical importance of understanding the physiological foundations of anesthesia practices, Azaklı emphasized the need to strengthen professional competencies and teamwork within the healthcare team.

Azaklı stated: “It is impossible to see what goes through the mind of an anesthesia technician, even when sitting still. Our work relies heavily on motor skills, but it also involves intense calculation and constant mental processing. I always tell my students, ‘Our main goal is not to send a patient away in the same condition they arrived.’ Accept that you know very little and remain hungry for knowledge. In the healthcare sector, let us add to one another’s expertise and, instead of competing with others, let everyone compete with who they were the day before. Even if I become a professor, I will always be most proud of being an anesthesia technician. Because anesthesia technology is my honorable profession that has given me my life, my friends, most of my livelihood, my beloved students, and thousands of friends I have connected with through social media.”

After the question-and-answer session, students had the opportunity to ask their questions directly to Instructor Ahmet Emre Azaklı. The event concluded with a gift presentation by Instructor Merve Aydın Karabaş, Head of the Anesthesia Program, and Instructor Abdurrahman Şengül.

The event concluded with a group photo session.
