Addressing the ancient questions between evolution, creation, and faith through a scientific lens, Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı, a Faculty Member of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, Department of Neuroscience, and a Neurologist at NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, invites the reader to the deep meanings of the universe, consciousness, and existence with his work titled “From Cave to Mars.”

The book met readers with its new edition under the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Yayınları label.

Thus, Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı’s work will henceforth be published by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Yayınları.

In the book, which aims to repair the disconnect between scientific findings and belief systems, the idea that evolution and existence do not conflict, but rather complement each other, is discussed with philosophical, theological, and scientific data.

Prof. Dr. Tarlacı argues that the evolutionary process can be a part of divine creation, bringing a new perspective to both the world of faith and science.

“From Cave to Mars,” published by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Yayınları, invites its readers to ponder at the boundaries of both science and faith.

Should believers reject evolution?

In the introduction to his book, Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı focuses on the artificial conflict created by the theory of evolution between science and religion, which has deepened particularly in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Tarlacı emphasizes that the false dilemma of 'if you believe in religion, you must reject evolution' alienates religious people from science and causes distrust towards science and a vicious cycle in society. Stating that there are responsible parties on both sides of this conflict, Tarlacı addresses, on one hand, the 'sword-wielding knights of science' who disregard religious belief, and on the other hand, the attitude that presents evolution as an atheist ideology while accepting another scientific theory of formation, such as the Big Bang, as proof of God.

The book's aim is not to prove evolution, but to eliminate the conflict

Stating that the main purpose of the book is not to prove evolution, but to eliminate this meaningless conflict, Prof. Dr. Tarlacı declares that he will not force the reader to choose a side. In this regard, instead of standard evolutionary evidence or counter-arguments, he explains that he will address the nature of faith, the dynamics of the religion-science conflict, and the shortcomings of both fields. Prof. Dr. Tarlacı puts forward as his main thesis that the universe and life are shaped by the principle of 'sequential and stepwise formation.' From this perspective, he aims to demonstrate that the theory of evolution, like the Big Bang theory, is also a part of this universal law of formation, and that this process does not necessarily contradict the existence of a Creator, but rather can be compatible with it.
