Tarhan: “We need positive psychology much more.”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector and also the President of the Congress, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan made the following evaluations regarding the importance of the congress:

“We are happy to host again a very important international program. The concept of positive psychology, the science of happiness, is very important. In the international arena, Positive Psychology has started to be taught as a course in many universities. In 2015, Harvard; in 2018, Yale; and in 2019, Bristol University started teaching it as a course. Üsküdar Üniversitesi, much earlier than these universities, introduced Positive Psychology to its students as a rectorate course in 2013. We have seen that the need for it has increased much more after the pandemic. Post-pandemic, a 'great reset' is being discussed globally. We are now experiencing a new normal. We need to adopt a solution-oriented life instead of a problem-oriented one. In this context, the importance of psychological resilience emerges. The preventive aspect is just as important as preventing the recurrence of illness after recovery. With ‘Psychological Resilience’ as its main theme, this congress will bring together very important names under the topics of resilience training and delayed gratification skills. Concepts such as relationship management in social relations, cooperativeness, gratitude training, forgiveness, and empathy will be discussed within the context of psychological resilience. I believe that participants in the congress will gain a lot.”
