This year, the 11th International Communication Days will be held with the main theme of “Digital Inequality and Data Colonialism.” The 11th International Communication Days Digital Inequality and Data Colonialism Symposium, which will last for 3 days between May 15-17, 2024, will feature 50 sessions and 250 papers will be presented.
Üsküdar Üniversitesi 11th International Communication Days is preparing to host experts in their fields. The symposium, whose main theme this year has been determined as “Digital Inequality and Data Colonialism,” will feature expert speakers from national and international universities.
The symposium will open on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, with speeches by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector's Advisor Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, and Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.
The invited speakers for the opening conference of the 11th Communication Days will be Goldsmiths, University of London Prof. Dr. Natalie Fenton, Ankara University Prof. Haluk Geray, and Retired Professor Prof. Dr. Ümit Atabek, in a session moderated by İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Prof. Dr. Halil Nalçaoğlu. In the morning session of the symposium on Thursday, May 16, invited speakers will include London School of Economics Prof. Dr. Nick Couldry, State University of New York Prof. Dr. Ulises A. Mejias, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi Prof. Dr. Tuğba Asrak Hasdemir, and Moscow State University Prof. Dr. Elena Vartanova, each delivering a speech, in a session moderated by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Muratoğlu Pehlivan.
Simultaneous translation will be provided for sessions conducted in English, and the sessions will also be broadcast live simultaneously on Üsküdar Üniversitesi Television (ÜÜTV) and YouTube channels.
The symposium, which will last for three days, will take place in 50 sessions. Digital inequality and data colonialism will be discussed from various perspectives at the symposium. The last session before the closing of the symposium, where the gains and losses of digitalization, which we are part of and which permeates all aspects of life, will be discussed in detail, and problems and solution proposals will be put forward, will be held as a Round Table Session moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, with the participation of experts and academics from the communication and media sectors.
On Friday, May 17, the Round Table session moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan will feature Journalist Emre Kızılkaya, Journalist Füsun Nebil, Author Ümit Alan, Koç Üniversitesi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suncem Koçer, Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can Ertuna, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, Journalist Dr. Sarphan Uzunoğlu, and Üsküdar Üniversitesi Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Muratoğlu Pehlivan.
Abstract texts of all papers to be presented at the symposium, followed by full texts, will be published as a book and shared with the public. Furthermore, all sessions of the symposium will be archived as video recordings on the symposium website and made accessible to all relevant parties.
