A visit was organized by Üsküdar University’s Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS), Social Work Program, to the Semiha Şakir Children’s Home Site. During the visit, which was conducted under the leadership of the Head of the Social Work Program, Asst. Prof. Dr. Melek Çaylak, students gained a deeply meaningful and educational experience, both from a professional perspective and in terms of human sensitivity.

The aim of the visit was to equip future professionals working in the field of social work not only with academic knowledge but also with a strong sense of social responsibility.

Asst. Prof. Melek Çaylak: “We will leave behind invaluable contributions for our future”
Asst. Prof. Melek Çaylak shared her thoughts on the visit. She said, “The loving glances and sincere smiles we encountered at the Semiha Şakir Children’s Home once again reminded us how valuable the work we do in this field truly is. I hope this visit serves as an inspiring example for both our students and all professionals in the field. I would like to express that we will continue to work with all our strength for a world where all children grow up in love, trust, and hope. Through new projects and impactful efforts for our children, we will leave behind invaluable legacies for our future.”

A humanitarian duty carried out with conscience…
The goal of the visit was to observe the living environments of children under state protection, witness their social development processes, and gain a closer understanding of their needs. Each child's individual story, resilience, and deep need for love once again highlighted the immense responsibility carried by the social work profession.
During meetings with the staff at the Semiha Şakir Children’s Home Site, in-depth exchanges were made regarding the psychosocial support processes, educational journeys, and social adaptation of the children under protection. Productive discussions also took place on the challenges faced by the institution and potential solutions.
The visit emphasized that touching the life of a single child is to leave hope for the future, and that social work is not merely a profession, but a humanitarian duty carried out with conscience.

Social work is the art of reintegrating a child into society…
The visit also illustrated that social work is not only the provision of services but the art of nurturing, supporting, and reintegrating a person into society. Being a guest, even briefly, in the world of children, listening to them, trying to understand them, and receiving a genuine smile in return became an unforgettable experience for the students.
