President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, renowned for his pioneering contributions to psychiatry, scientific research, and education both nationally and internationally, is featured in the book Anılarla Tıpta Öncüler-I (Pioneers in Medicine with Memories). In this book, which highlights the successes of pioneering figures in medicine, Prof. Tarhan is celebrated as a leading figure in psychiatry with the title “Anılarla Nevzat Tarhan, Psikiyatride Ezberleri Bozan Duayen”.

The book, published by Akademisyen Kitapevi, includes Prof. Tarhan’s biography, his notable quotes, memories, and an advanced reading section. The book was edited by Dr. Cengiz Yakıncı, Dr. Yaşar Durmaz, and Dr. Mehmet Ali Erkurt, with the contributions of TRT anchor Emre Şimşek, one of the editors of Ezber Bozan Hayatlar.

The book highlights that Prof. Tarhan chose psychiatry not only to be a successful professional but also to make a deep impact on people's hearts. It mentions his commitment to the social aspects of medicine, considering psychiatry as the most human-oriented branch of medicine. Despite being trained in other fields, including otolaryngology, he followed his passion for psychiatry, which was influenced by the late Prof. Ayhan Songar, a pioneer in the field. The book also narrates the establishment of Türkiye's first neuropsychiatry hospital, NPİSTANBUL, by Prof. Tarhan. Despite warnings that he might fail, he persevered, using his resources and securing financing to establish the hospital, making it a landmark achievement in Türkiye’s healthcare sector.

The Foundation of Üsküdar University

The story of Üsküdar University’s creation is also shared, highlighting how Prof. Tarhan’s relentless drive for excellence led him to found the university. In 2008, after a visit from Prof. Kemal Arıkan, who noted that the university had all the essential elements for a medical institution, Prof. Tarhan decided to establish the university. Driven by his belief in the integration of healthcare, technology, and education, he founded Üsküdar University, creating a thematic institution that merged these fields.

The book also explores Prof. Tarhan’s contributions to bridging the gap between belief and science. His books, which blend spiritual philosophy with psychology, have sold over one million copies and continue to impact individuals, families, and society at large. His views are widely shared through social media, television, and radio, reaching millions.
