Prof. Nevzat Tarhan's favorite in the "Frames of the Year" voting by Anadolu Agency was "The Hope of the Earthquake"
President of Üsküdar University, psychiatrist, and author Prof. Nevzat Tarhan participated in the "Frames of the Year" voting, which included photos of the events that marked 2023 through the eyes of Anadolu Agency (AA).
Tarhan examined the photographs taken by AA reporters and photojournalists in Türkiye and abroad and evaluated the photos in the categories of "News", "Environment and Life", "Sports", "Earthquake: Hope" and "Gaza: Evidence".
The Hope of the Earthquake
Tarhan, who chose Aytuğ Can Sencar's photograph "The Hope of the Earthquake" in the "Earthquake: Hope" category, said that great sacrifices were made in the February 6 earthquakes, known as the disaster of the century.
Desperate Lives
Referring to the fact that the 6-month-old baby who was pulled out of the rubble 29 hours after the earthquake in Hatay and the employees who made sacrifices were seen together, Tarhan stated that "Even in such an event, life goes on. The fact that that child was pulled out of the ruins of the earthquake, that sense of compassion and hope here, means that there is never room for pessimism and hopelessness about the future of humanity, that there will always be a way out, and that the life events experienced have an aspect of opportunity as well as a threat."
Sky Acrobatics
"This desperation is the desperation of the United Nations"
Tarhan, who chose Belal Khaled's photograph "Desperate lives" in the "Gaza: Evidence" category, noted that the photograph was one of the symbolic photographs showing the events in Gaza.
Sweat of the Brow
Stating that there is desperation in the photo; however, there is no hopelessness, Prof. Tarhan said that "There is always a way out in despair. There is a reason to live, to struggle. It is a photograph that expresses very well the shame of the global powers that do talk big in the name of human rights in the world. This helplessness is actually the desperation of the United Nations. This desperation is not the desperation of the people here. In 10 years, 20 years, this shame will bow their heads. It is a photograph that shows that the global conscience has been wounded."
Cyclists
Tarhan, who preferred Mahmut Serdar Alakuş's "Sky acrobatics" in the "News" category, voted for Murtadha Al-Sudani's "Sweat of the Brow" in "Environment and Life" and Elif Öztürk Özgöncü's "Cyclists" in "Sports".
