Neuroscience Master's Program About the Master's Program

What Is the Neuroscience Master Program?

Neuroscience is a branch of science based on the functional and structural investigation of the components of the nervous system in all living organisms that possess one. Considered an overarching, multidisciplinary field, neuroscience today spans a broad spectrum of disciplines, including basic sciences such as biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, medicine, engineering sciences such as computer engineering and electrical and electronics engineering, as well as psychology.

At our thematic university, together with a team capable of serving as a model for this multidisciplinary structure, we offer high-level education and research quality with a vision that places emphasis on research alongside teaching.

Uskudar University Makes a Difference with Its Laboratories

The Uskudar University Neuroscience Master Program differs significantly in terms of the content of its curriculum and its goals regarding the qualifications its graduates should possess. The most important difference between the Neuroscience Master Program and its counterparts in Turkey is the opportunity to conduct projects and theses in the university's laboratories and research centers, which operate across a broad spectrum and are equipped with state-of-the-art devices.

The multidisciplinary nature of neuroscience forms the foundation of our master's programs.

Through the courses taken in the first year, we aim for our master's program in neuroscience to provide the multidisciplinary background necessary for academic progress. Some of the subdisciplines included in our program's curriculum are as follows:

  • Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience
  • Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology
  • Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience
  • Neuroimaging
  • Cognitive Neuroscience
  • Developmental Neuroscience
  • Systems Neuroscience
  • Clinical Neuroscience
  • Neurochemistry and Neuropsychopharmacology
  • Behavioral Neuroscience

What Courses Are Taken in the Neuroscience Master Program (with and without Thesis)?

The Neuroscience Master Program aims to enable students to progress from learning how neuroscience research should be conducted to acquiring the most specific knowledge in the field they wish to pursue. Students are expected to develop a fundamental theoretical background in all subfields of neuroscience. To graduate, students investigate and discuss a specific neuroscience problem under the supervision of a faculty member in the neuroscience subfield of their interest, and prepare a thesis or project  that reflects the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies.

What Are the Career Fields of Neuroscience Master Program Graduates?

The Neuroscience Master Program aims to train individuals who can follow new knowledge and approaches in neuroscience education and teaching, who have sufficient knowledge in the core areas of neuroscience and the research qualities required by a neuroscientific perspective, and who can approach current problems from a neuroscience standpoint.

Our program is geared toward academic development. Our graduates can continue their academic careers in this field with a doctorate, work as research assistants at universities, and, since they have practical and analytical knowledge of neurological diagnosis and treatment methods, take on various positions in the health sector.
