Political Science and International Relations Working Principles of the Accreditation Commission

Department of Political Science and International Relations Accreditation Commission Plan 

1. Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this Plan is to ensure that all activities related to instruction conducted in the Department of Political Science and International Relations comply with the Vision, Mission, and established principles of Üsküdar University and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and to maintain the standards achieved within this scope. This plan covers academic staff employed in the Department of Political Science and International Relations and students enrolled in the department.

2. Definitions

As used in this Plan:

a. University: Üsküdar University

b. Faculty: The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

c. Department: The Department of Political Science and International Relations

d. Department Chair: The Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations

e. Program: The Bachelor’s Program in Political Science and International Relations

f. Commission: The Department of Political Science and International Relations Accreditation Commission

g. Commission Chair: The Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations Accreditation Commission

h. Member: A Member of the Department of Political Science and International Relations Accreditation Commission

ı. Student: Students enrolled in the Political Science and International Relations undergraduate program, as well as participants receiving periodic training in courses, educational programs, and similar activities,

i. Accreditation: Refers to a quality framework established to support the reliability and validity of the work conducted by conformity assessment bodies and, consequently, the conformity assessment certificates they issue as a result of such work.

3. Formation of the Commission, Procedures and Principles of Operation, and Responsibilities

a. The Commission consists of a chairperson and at least two members selected from among the academic staff of the Department. The term of office for the Commission is one year. If a vacancy occurs on the Commission for any reason, a new member is selected through an election within the Department. If the chairperson leaves, the Commission is reconstituted.

b. The Committee begins its duties upon notification by the Department Chair that the Committee has been formed.

c. The Committee conducts its work within the framework of the Üsküdar University Academic Calendar and the Department of Political Science and International Relations’ Annual Activity Plan.

d. The Commission meets in person or online at a time and location designated by the Faculty, as scheduled by the Commission Chair, taking into account the members’ academic activities.

e. The Commission reviews the results of the Higher Education Undergraduate Entrance Exam

(1) Updating data on students enrolled in the department,

(2) The program’s mission, vision, and objectives,

(3) The relationship between the program’s learning outcomes and the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ, 31 Social and Behavioral Sciences),

(4) Determining program-specific learning outcomes,

(5) Program Curriculum,

(6) Determining the relationship between each course and the Program Learning Outcomes

(7) Assessment Methods for Program Learning Outcomes,

(8) Assessment Methods in Course Syllabi,

(9) Core Area, Specialization Area, and Competency-Supplementing courses in the Program Curriculum (designated as elective and required courses),

(10) Provision of optional internship opportunities for students,

(11) Responsibilities of academic advisors and activities they will conduct with students,

(12) Stakeholders of the Department Advisory Board,

(13) Activities to be carried out with the Department Advisory Board,

(14) Conducting a survey at the end of each year to assess students’ perceptions of whether they have achieved the Course Learning Outcomes,

(15) Conducting a survey of graduates to determine whether they have achieved the Program Objectives and Program Learning Outcomes,

(16) Evaluation of surveys assessing whether students have achieved their learning outcomes,

(17) Departmental distance education policy

(18) Ensuring that the faculty is large enough to support scientific research, student-faculty dialogue, academic advising, and academic development, and to cover all areas of the undergraduate program,

(19) Aligning program-specific criteria with the courses in the curriculum,

(20) Student clubs,

(21) Career planning for students,

(22) Department Self-Evaluation Report,

f. The Commission Chair is responsible for ensuring that the Commission’s activities are conducted in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law. 

g. The Commission Chair is responsible for maintaining information and documents related to the Commission’s work in digital format and for transferring them to the next Commission Chair.

4. This Plan entered into effect on November 6, 2024.

5. The Department Chair is responsible for the implementation of this Plan.
