General İnformation

Our knowledge about brain functions is still limited today, which is accepted as the information and communication age. As a result, a radical (radical) treatment of important diseases and psychosocial problems directly related to brain functions such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, autism, depression and substance addiction cannot be performed with drugs yet.

In recent years, more resources are allocated to scientific research and development studies for the treatment of brain-related diseases in important countries where the level of development in science and technology is not discussed. According to the statements of some important scientists, the century we are in, will be a period where scientific studies on brain research will come to the fore and important solutions for brain diseases will be presented. In this context, the United States, which is undoubtedly the best in the world in the field of neuroscience research, has declared the 21st century as the "brain century".

Scientific research is of great importance in finding the causes of the disease and developing new medicines for its treatment. In order to conduct researches in accordance with the universal standards of science, appropriate laboratories, sufficient equipment and well-trained scientists are required.

Üsküdar University is a thematic university focused on brain research. It has all the facilities where qualified scientific research and projects can be produced with a multidisciplinary approach and carried out in a healthy way. Neuropsychopharmacology is an important and dynamic field of neuroscience that includes all research activities aimed at developing new and more effective drugs for the treatment of diseases associated with the central nervous system. Cooperates with many other independent disciplines such as biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and biophysics, especially psychiatry, pharmacology, neurology and psychology. Neuropsychopharmacology research is carried out in many scientifically developed countries. For these reasons, Neuropsychopharmacology Application and Research Center (NPFUAM) was established at Üsküdar University, which is a thematic university focused on the brain. NPFUAM is the first center in our country to focus on carrying out this kind of scientific research. It is one of the few centers in the world that has this function.

VISION:

In study: To make new inventions with scientific research in our country, to establish an idea that aims to produce new or alternative theories by questioning existing ones, and to work for the formation of all the scientific conditions and infrastructure required to be a candidate for a Nobel Prize in the future.

In education: To instill scientific thinking in students, to encourage students to participate in scientific research and to love science, to bring the talented ones to the country for scientific studies. To train qualified academicians who have the identity of exemplary scientists and adopt science as a lifestyle.

OBJECTIVES:

The main goal is to produce qualified scientific information for the diagnosis and treatment of important brain diseases and to transform the obtained scientific knowledge into technology. For this, it is aimed to produce qualified research projects, to carry out them in a healthy way, to transform them into new inventions registered with a patent and to technology, through new drugs or diagnostic methods.

To raise scientists who have gained the ability to conduct qualified scientific research in the field of neuropsychopharmacology in line with ethical principles and to compete with the world at the highest level in the scientific platform.

Establishing an infrastructure that will pave the way for the training of qualified scientists of the future, with approaches that will create scientific research passion and motivation in students studying at Üsküdar University, and willing and talented students work in laboratories or participate in ongoing projects.

To exchange information and ideas by establishing relations with other universities and scientific research centers at home and abroad, to develop and carry out joint projects for brain research with a multidisciplinary approach.

To organize activities such as conferences, seminars, brochures and media to inform and educate the public about the drug treatment of important brain diseases such as Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, autism, depression, Parkinson's and substance addiction and new developments in these diseases.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES AND CAPABILITIES:

Laboratories where nervous system diseases can be easily modeled and their behaviors can be studied have been established and activated. Laboratories have international scientific and ethical standards on experimental neuropsychopharmacology.

The center will raise animals used in experimental studies, such as rats and mice, in accordance with international ethical and accreditation rules.

All major brain diseases can be modeled in experimental animals. Studies are ongoing to understand the etiopathogenesis of important brain diseases, especially schizophrenia and substance addiction, and to develop new approaches for their treatment.

Preclinical psychopharmacological screening studies of newly synthesized drugs that can find a chance to enter treatment as psychotropic drugs can be performed.

Experimental neuropsychopharmacology studies can be transformed into more qualified data with the participation and support of important disciplines such as neuroanatomy, experimental psychology, molecular biology, pharmacogenetics and biochemistry. The opportunities to work with the clinic, which we can accept as the last point, are also very convenient.

The information needed by the clinician or the patient can be provided quickly and reliably for the most effective application of psychotropic drugs, considering the benefit / harm ratio.
