Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur: “Your positive expectations give us positive energy too”

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, delivered the opening speech of the iftar program held at Üsküdar University NP Dental and Health Campus, stating that the students' positive expectations returned to them as positive energy, and added: “At such ceremonies, I feel as young as you are, like a student in the faculty of medicine. I also thank you as your instructor for letting me experience those mutual feelings. You rejuvenate me; your youthful spirit reflects from your eyes to us. Your positive expectations give us positive energy too. On behalf of all of you, we owe our esteemed Professor Nevzat our thanks. He does his best to ensure our comfort. As the faculty of medicine, I extend my regards.” he said.

Prof. Dr. Tarhan: “Breaking Fast with Young Medical Students is a Special Beauty”

Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who met with Faculty of Medicine students at the iftar dinner, offered advice to medical students in his speech. Tarhan; “Renewing ourselves is a very important principle in medicine. One should not constantly say ‘I know everything’. There was an example our professors at Cerrahpaşa used to tell: being an observer is important. Perspective and observation are very important. In medicine, the master-apprentice relationship is not about acquiring and memorizing theoretical knowledge; medicine has an artistic side, which is learned through the master-apprentice model. That’s why Professor Haydar’s warm approach is our philosophy. If there is a master-apprentice relationship, good medicine is taught. Just as artists have their quirks, so do professors; you will endure them, as what they do to teach you are actually some meaningful insights. As all professors, we also give importance to this.” he said.

“Let’s Reflect on the Meanings of Ramadan”

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan concluded his speech by informing students about Ramadan: “In this spiritual atmosphere of goodness that Ramadan brings, where the concept of goodness is intensely experienced and exalted, it is necessary to also reflect on the meanings of Ramadan. These beautiful qualities we learn during Ramadan, we must continue them even after Ramadan has concluded. Your worship, your fasting, this fast is as precious as a shining sun. Those of our age are like candles, you are like the sun. That’s why you should be congratulated. When there are so many things, when you can live as you please, it is an honor to test yourselves spiritually.” he said.

Students, sharing the joy of breaking their fast together during Ramadan, also took a group photo.
