The ‘WFNS Training Course’, one of the leading events in the field of brain, nerve, and spinal surgery worldwide, is being held in Istanbul this year!

The ‘WFNS Training Course’, co-hosted by the Education and Training Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), the WFNS Young Neurosurgeons Forum Committee, and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, commenced between September 27-29, 2024, at the Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus İbni Sina Auditorium.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, said, “We were the first to bring personalized treatment to Turkey.”

Tarhan also noted that they are the third hospital in the world to receive JCI accreditation in their field, stating, “We established the latest innovative treatments, neuromodulation deep TMU, and pharmacogenetic laboratory as diagnostic tools. This year, many valuable specialists working under the umbrella of ‘Brain, Nerve, and Spinal Surgery’ are with us.”
 

Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus is hosting the ‘WFNS Training Course’, one of the most important events in the field of brain, nerve, and spinal surgery worldwide, from September 27-29, 2024. 

The event, organized in cooperation with the Education and Training Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), the WFNS Young Neurosurgeons Forum Committee, and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, is taking place at the Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus İbni Sina Auditorium.

Tarhan: “We spearheaded many scientific studies…”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the course, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the event will offer new perspectives to young specialists in brain, nerve, and spinal surgery, emphasizing that as NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, they have spearheaded many scientific studies in this field.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi's thematic structure and neuroscience vision

Prof. Dr. Tarhan stated that Üskügar Üniversitesi is a thematic foundation university synthesizing health engineering and neuroscience fields, and they continue their education and training activities with over 24 thousand students. Prof. Dr. Tarhan added that the university's Faculty of Medicine will give its first graduates this year, and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi draws attention with its diagnostic and treatment methods for brain health and diseases.
Prof. Dr. Tarhan particularly emphasized the importance of personalized approaches in the treatment of diseases such as depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's, autism spectrum disorder, and addiction, stating that psychiatric illnesses are brain diseases and these treatment processes require evidence-based approaches.

This year, many valuable specialists working under the umbrella of ‘Brain, Nerve, and Spinal Surgery’ are with us. I would like to thank our esteemed lecturer Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman and his valuable team for their significant contributions to bringing this program to the hospital.”

Spine Center team meticulously prepared the event program 

Prof. Dr. Tarhan explained that NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, together with this team, will participate in important organizations in the national and international arena and believes that beautiful touches will be made to the lives of patients coming from both Turkey and abroad. He stated, “We are proud to organize the ‘WFNS Training Course’ in Istanbul, a city rich in history and diverse culture. We are pleased to see and host you at this important event.”

Prof. Dr. Tarhan stated that the Spine Center team meticulously and with great care prepared the event program, noting that the first day of the event will focus on craniocerebral surgery and the second day on spinal surgery. He added that this program, where distinguished academics and specialists will give advanced lectures, will provide participants with learning opportunities through interactive scientific discussions and case studies.

Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman, a member of the WFNS Training Course Organizing Committee and Specialist in Brain, Nerve, and Spinal Cord Surgery at NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, highlighted that this prestigious course is specifically planned according to the needs of young brain, nerve, and spinal surgeons. He said, “This course is a unique platform to gain practical information about the treatment processes of brain and spinal disorders and to learn from international experts.”

Yaman also addressed the aim of the WFNS Training Course, stating, “The goal here is to bring together brain, nerve, and spinal surgeons from around the world to share current approaches in treatment and to transfer this knowledge to young colleagues.” 

Leading names in brain, nerve, and spinal surgery share their knowledge and experience

In this training course, which is followed with great interest worldwide, leading names in brain, nerve, and spinal surgery such as Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman, Mehmet Zileli, Abuzer Güngör, Salman Şerif, Usame Muhammed, İbrahim Omerhodzic, Ender Ofluoğlu, Eduardo Carvalhal Ribas, Bin Xu, M. Sabri Gürbüz, Jun Muto, Sabino Luzzi, Giovanni Raffa are sharing their knowledge and experience.

The first day of this three-day event focuses on craniocerebral surgery, and the second day on spinal surgery. This event, where distinguished academics and specialists will give advanced lectures, also offers participants the opportunity to gain knowledge through interactive scientific discussions and case studies.
Topics such as Spinal Surgery, Cranial Surgery, Neurosurgical Oncology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery are also highlighted at the event.

Surgical techniques will be transferred to trainees with the latest technological models

Within the scope of the event, an training titled “Management of subaxial cervical trauma” will be given to trainees by Prof. Dr. Onur Yaman, a member of the WFNS Training Course Organizing Committee and Specialist in Nerve and Spinal Cord Surgery at NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi. 

On Sunday, September 29, a ‘Microvascular dissection course’ and a ‘Spinal dissection course (Upsurgeon)’ will be held. With the trainings to be conducted at NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, surgical techniques will be transferred to the İbni Sina Auditorium, where the trainees are located, using the latest technological methods, and explained through case studies.
