The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Health Sciences organized an event titled “Innovations in Physiotherapy and Multidisciplinary Work: Surgeon–Physiotherapist Collaboration in Anismus and Constipation.” The event emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation and evaluated the role of physiotherapy in the post-surgical process and its impact on patients’ quality of life. The significance of physiotherapy after surgery was strongly highlighted.

The event took place at the Ibn Sina Auditorium on Üsküdar University’s NP Health Campus and was attended by Prof. Deniz Demirci, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Üsküdar University; Asst. Prof. Muhammed Fatih Kavak from the same department; General Surgeon Prof. Korhan Taviloğlu; and Physiotherapist Sultan Büşra Kavak.

Prof. Deniz Demirci: "Physiotherapy after surgery is critically important"
Prof. Deniz Demirci, Head of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, emphasized the importance of collaboration between physiotherapists and surgeons, stating: “Post-surgical physiotherapy is critically important for individuals suffering from anismus. At this point, a proper collaboration between surgeons and physiotherapists is essential for both effective treatment and improved quality of life for patients.”

Prof. Korhan Taviloğlu: “I always recommend what’s natural”
Providing insights to the participants, Prof. Korhan Taviloğlu underlined the role of nutrition in the treatment process. He stated: “Our patients always ask, ‘Doctor, I have heard about probiotics, what brand do you recommend?’ They are curious about brands. I recommend probiotics with no brand. I could name fifty, such as local ones, or international ones. They range from A to Z. But I recommend unbranded because I always promote what’s natural. What are natural probiotics? Kefir, ayran (a yogurt-based drink), yogurt, pickled cucumbers, sauerkraut, and even chocolate. All of these are probiotics.”

Asst. Prof. Muhammed Fatih Kavak: “Those who improve themselves will discover new career paths”
Highlighting the main motivation behind the seminar, Dr. Muhammed Fatih Kavak from the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department said: “Under the theme of general surgeon–physiotherapist cooperation, we wanted to demonstrate how physiotherapists can find roles in new fields. Colleagues who develop themselves in these areas can find opportunities in very diverse and productive fields. That’s why we believe many areas hold innovative potential, and physiotherapists who invest in themselves will discover meaningful new career paths.”

PT Sultan Büşra Kavak: “Accurate assessment is essential for effective treatment”
Physiotherapist Sultan Büşra Kavak emphasized that every individual has different needs, stating: “Each individual’s needs are different. That’s why accurate assessment is essential for effective treatment. We don’t diagnose, yes, we work with patients who already have a diagnosis, but our own assessment criteria actually show us how the patient is progressing. We don’t provide a diagnosis, but we evaluate diagnosed patients and monitor their progress. Accurate assessment is vital for effective treatment.”
Following a Q&A session, the event concluded with the presentation of sapling certificates and a group photo.
