Medical students, heed these recommendations

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur made evaluations regarding the importance of medical faculty education.

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur said, “Medical faculty education is crucial for providing the necessary theoretical and practical training to produce doctors who understand fundamental health issues, possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to protect and improve health, practice their profession in accordance with ethical rules, conduct research and inquiry, and meet nationally and internationally accepted standards.”

The doctor's proficiency in clinical knowledge and skills is important

“Globally, medical education is considered the most expensive, lengthy, and complex university education,” said Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, adding, “The reason for this is that human relations with patients and their relatives are conducted with very sensitive emotional states, and it concerns the most subjective existence of individuals: their fate of survival and death. The resources used in services are very expensive, and it is important that the doctors entrusted with them are competent in clinical knowledge and skills. Learning nearly 40,000 diseases and their treatment methods requires both a great theoretical accumulation and great skill.”

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur also provided the following information regarding the advantages of English medical faculty education:

•          Students studying at an English medical faculty can grasp terminology concepts more easily.

•          They can easily utilize articles and foreign publications in situations where Turkish resources are insufficient.

•          They can easily follow developments in the global medical field.

•          It becomes easier for them to follow newly discovered treatments worldwide.

•          Always consult experts in the field for their opinions and advice.

•          Don't delay in choosing your future specialization and study for TUS during your internship period.

•          Medicine requires both scientific education and work discipline, and it has an artistic side to be acquired through master-apprentice training. Therefore, acquiring practical skills is as important as theoretical knowledge. Try to gain professional experience by spending a lot of time with experienced physicians.

•          The science of medicine is universal, but medical practices are local. Be fully informed about the health risks and problems of the place where you will work. Do not just settle for what your school and teachers provide; ask them questions and seek more.

•          Since peer education is very important for self-improvement in the medical profession, organize knowledge and experience sharing sessions among yourselves and teach each other.

•          Learn not only from success stories but also from failure stories.

•          Medical education is a lifelong process. Always keep your knowledge up to date by following new information, practices, and treatment methods.
