An event titled “Social Service Activities in Non-Governmental Organizations: The Turkish Red Crescent Example” was organized by Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO).  Burcu Kösem, President of the Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch, attended the event as a guest. Within the scope of the program, students gained information about the work of the Red Crescent and the functioning of non-governmental organizations. 

The event, held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Emirnebi Conference Hall, was moderated by Dr. Lecturer Melek Çaylak, Head of the Social Services Department.

Dr. Lecturer Melek Çaylak: “Non-governmental organizations are of great importance”

Dr. Lecturer Melek Çaylak, Head of SHMYO Social Services Program, drawing attention to the strengthening of democratic participation by non-governmental organizations; “Non-governmental organizations are of great importance in making the voice of society heard and strengthening democratic processes. These organizations enable individuals to come together and work for common goals, contributing to the representation of all segments of society.” she stated.

Dr. Lecturer Gamze Kağan: “Doing selfless good is one of the happiest events in the world”

In place of Birol Boz, President of the Turkish Red Crescent Kadıköy District, Dr. Lecturer Gamze Kağan, Board Member of the Turkish Red Crescent Kadıköy Branch and Head of the SHMYO Occupational Health and Safety Program; “My advice to you is to participate in events, become a volunteer. Doing selfless good is one of the happiest events in the world. In our culture, there is also a very beautiful motto: 'The giving hand does not know the receiving hand.' We, the Red Crescent, associations, NGOs, are merely intermediaries. We are not the givers, but the facilitators. We reach those in need through others' donations. A smile on someone's face, hearing that a need has been met, brings indescribable happiness.” she said.

Burcu Kösem: “Volunteering is one of the strongest values of our society”

Burcu Kösem, President of the Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch, emphasized that volunteering is one of the strongest values that increases solidarity and spreads good deeds in society; “Volunteering is one of the strongest values of our society. We believe that doing good, sharing, and being together in difficult times strengthen the bonds in society. As the Red Crescent, we work shoulder to shoulder with our volunteers in matters of good deeds and aid. Because goodness is contagious, and thanks to our volunteers, we can reach wider audiences.” she stated.

After the Q&A session and the presentation of thank-you certificates to the guests, the event concluded with a group photo.
