Weak and lacking aspects should be identified before entering professional life!

An event titled “CV Preparation and Interview Techniques” was organized by the Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Orthopedic Prosthesis and Orthotics Program, within the scope of the University culture course. Dr. Lecturer Damla Yılmazoğlu, Head of the Üsküdar University SHMYO Medical Promotion and Marketing Program, participated in the event. Yılmazoğlu emphasized that individuals should assess their weak and lacking aspects before entering professional life and take steps accordingly.

Students showed great interest in the event held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Emirnebi Conference Hall. The event was moderated by Lecturer Kübra Akkalay, Head of the Orthopedic Prosthesis and Orthotics Program at the Vocational School of Health Services.

“You should go to the interview prepared”

Dr. Lecturer Damla Yılmazoğlu, drawing attention to how participants should act before going to a job interview, said: “When you are called for a job interview, you must go prepared. Before the interview, you should research detailed information about the company you will be interviewing with. Try to gather information about the company's corporate culture. Gaining knowledge about the company will also boost your self-confidence. Therefore, this situation will also reduce your excitement in front of the interviewer. For this reason, gaining knowledge about the company is very important.”

Questions should also be asked when appropriate…

Yılmazoğlu, emphasizing that a job interview is not just a process where the employer asks questions and the participant answers them, said: “When the time comes, you will also ask the employer questions you are curious about. You can ask the employer about working conditions and the facilities available to employees, but refrain from asking a question like ‘How much are you planning to pay for this position?’ as soon as the interview ends. Asking about your salary in the first interview would not be a very good move.”

It is very important to convey theoretical and practical knowledge to the employer!

Yılmazoğlu, mentioning the importance of conveying theoretical and practical knowledge learned during the interview to the employer, said: “Even if you have passed the relevant course, keep the notes of the academic, theoretical, and practical information you learned in school. Review them when necessary because they may come up as technical questions in the interview.”

Practicing reduces excitement

Yılmazoğlu, offering advice to those who will attend the interview, said: “On the day of the interview, you are expected by the employer to adhere to the interview time. Do not be there two hours before the interview, nor be fifteen to twenty minutes late. Taking traffic into account, being at the interview location ten to fifteen minutes before the interview will be sufficient. It is not advisable to go to the interview without eating; make sure to eat something. In the interview, you need to appear energetic, dynamic, and self-confident. The field you are applying for may not be a general management unit, but whatever the position, pay close attention to your attire when going to the interview for the other party to perceive you as professional. Away from exaggerated hair, exaggerated makeup, a moderately high-heeled shoe might be appropriate. It is said that light nail polish leaves a good impression on the employer. It is recommended to go to the interview with a classic appearance. Male candidates should also avoid a marginal look and have their hair and beard trimmed. Placing keys, phones, or wallets on the table where the interview is conducted are behaviors that detract from your professionalism. The more you practice, the more you will overcome your interview anxiety, so practice in front of a mirror.”

The event concluded with a group photo session after the presentation of the certificate of appreciation.
