VSHS graduates shared their field experiences

A “Graduate Reunion” event was organized in collaboration with the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program of the Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS) and the Career Center Directorate. Üsküdar University graduates who are working in various sectors came together with students online. They shared their professional experiences, the opportunities and challenges they encountered in the field, and provided valuable insights for those aiming to pursue a career in the sector.

The event was moderated by VSHS Deputy Director and Head of the Department of Electrical and Energy Assoc. Prof. Feride Kulalı Özdek, Head of the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program Instructor Dilek Aker, and Director of the Career Center Remziye Çopur.

Participants of the event included Sude Nur Özkan and Ecem Gazanfer, Radiation Safety Officers at MOLTEK Healthcare Services Production and Marketing; Yuşa Gürsoy, Radiation Safety Technician at Monrol; Mahmut Ekrem Yaşar, First Category Technician at Akkuyu Nuclear; Hüseyin Dinç, Chief Technician of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Kartal Training and Research Hospital; and Ramazan Örgen.

Working with radiation requires utmost attention!

Sude Nur Özkan and Ecem Gazanfer, Radiation Safety Officers at MOLTEK Healthcare Services Production and Marketing, shared their experiences with students. They emphasized the importance of radiation safety practices in radioisotope centers and the responsibilities they fulfill. They provided information about accelerators used in radioisotope production, procedures for shielding and transporting isotopes, and highlighted how working with radiation requires significant care and attention.

Vital role of safety protocols emphasized

Yuşa Gürsoy, Radiation Safety Technician at Monrol, a company providing services in the production of radiopharmaceuticals, gave a brief overview of the company and shared his experience during the recruitment process. He also emphasized the critical role of safety protocols in the production processes of radioactive materials.

Technical knowledge, discipline, and safety awareness must go hand in hand

Mahmut Ekrem Yaşar, one of the first graduates of the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program, currently works as a First Category Technician at Akkuyu Nuclear, one of Turkey’s largest nuclear energy projects. After briefly explaining the process leading to his current position, he discussed career opportunities at Akkuyu Nuclear and shared his personal career journey. He advised students to work hard and stay determined in pursuit of their goals, stressing that technical knowledge, discipline, and safety awareness must go hand in hand in the nuclear energy sector.

Practices ensuring patient safety were discussed

Hüseyin Dinç, a graduate of the Medical Imaging Techniques and Radiotherapy Programs, currently works as Chief Technician at the Nuclear Medicine Department of Kartal Training and Research Hospital and is also continuing his education in the Nuclear Technology and Radiation Safety Program. Dinç emphasized the correct and safe use of radiation in clinical practices, explaining practices that ensure patient safety and the use of hot labs.

Erasmus+ experience was also shared

Ramazan Örgen shared his Erasmus+ experience, discussing the benefits of doing an internship abroad in the field of nuclear technology and the impact of cultural exchanges on professional development.

The event not only served as a strong example of solidarity among alumni but also offered an inspiring and guiding platform for current students.

Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable insights not only about professional development but also about career paths after graduation.
