V. National Occupational Health and Safety Student Congress Held

During Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Week, the “V. National Occupational Health and Safety Student Congress” was held. The congress, hosted by İstanbul Medeniyet Üniversitesi with the support of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, was also supported by Niğde Ömer Halisdemir, Batman, Sağlık Bilimleri and Kırşehir Ahi Evran Universities, as well as MESKA Foundation, MOFWEB, MEL Elektronik and STEMBIO. Dr. Rüştü Uçan, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, and academicians from the department participated in the congress, themed “Risk Management and Engineering Approaches in Occupational Safety.”

Dr. Hasan Selçuk Selek, Vice President of TÜBİTAK TEYDEB, Dr. Rüştü Uçan, Head of Occupational Health and Safety Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müge Ensari Özay, Dr. Hacer Kayhan, Dr. Gamze Kağan, Head of Occupational Health and Safety Program at the Vocational School of Health Services, and Lecturer Mustafa Cüneyt Gezen from the Occupational Health and Safety Master's program at the Institute of Health Sciences, participated in the congress organized in cooperation with multiple universities.

OHS professionals and students came together…

The V. National Occupational Health and Safety Student Congress, where OHS experts participated as speakers, led the way in monitoring innovative engineering approaches in occupational health and safety practices. 

At the congress, problems and solution proposals in OHS, a multidisciplinary field, were addressed. In this context, new perspectives brought to the field were discussed. 

Dr. Rüştü Uçan: “We are shaping the future of OHS with young people”

Dr. Rüştü Uçan, Head of Occupational Health and Safety Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, drew attention to the fact that occupational safety involves technical issues and the problem of not defining associate professorship for occupational safety. Uçan stated that they are trying to shape the future of occupational health and safety together with young people. 

A paper on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Firefighting and OHS was presented

Fatma Nisa Gürüz, a 4th-year student of Occupational Health and Safety at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, participated in the congress with a paper titled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Firefighting and OHS.” Gürüz, who presented her paper, was awarded a certificate of participation. 

The Impact of Safe Behavior on Risk Management was discussed

Furthermore, Zeynep Kaya, a 1st-year student of the Occupational Health and Safety Associate Degree Program at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vocational School of Health Services, participated in the congress with a collaborative paper titled “The Impact of Safe Behavior on Risk Management,” co-authored with Dr. Gamze Kağan, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Associate Degree Program at the Vocational School of Health Services. Kaya, who presented her paper, was awarded a certificate of participation.

The 6th Congress will be held next year at Gümüşhane Üniversitesi

It was announced to the participants that the 6th Occupational Health and Safety Student Congress, organized with different themes, will be held next year at Gümüşhane Üniversitesi.
