Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan and Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka met with the university's award-winning sports teams at the Çarşı Campus Sports Hall. Tarhan and Zelka, sharing the athletes' excitement and happiness, also experienced the joy of lifting a cup together. Tarhan presented his book 'Being a Conscious Young Person' to all athletes. "Personality and character strength are very important in sports"
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who met with the teams that achieved success in the University League, made evaluations about the importance of sports. Tarhan emphasized strong personality and character in sports; "Behind these achievements lies great effort and dedication. Most people might not be aware of this, but we are. It is always said in sports that 'a sound mind is in a sound body,' but the opposite is also true; a sound body is in a sound mind. Those with an unsound mind cannot succeed in sports. Given that they have achieved these successes, our athletes possess sound minds. Personality and character strength are very important in sports. Team spirit, being excited by the same thing and being able to react similarly, is very important. Once, they came from the National Team for a study, and we worked on how to provide focus training for athletes. Athletes are negatively affected by bad cheering and rhetoric, causing their focus to scatter. It is very important for a person to lock onto the goal, and this happens by adding their emotions to what they do. Playing with only logic is one thing; doing their job by attaching high value and meaning to it is quite different. The feeling of being national, a person's love for their homeland, is very influential," he stated.
"If a person does not have a sustainable character trait, successes will not be permanent"
Tarhan, emphasizing the importance of supporting athletes, shared insights about the gains sports provide to human character. Tarhan; "A strong character in an athlete is very important for the continuity of success. If a person does not possess a sustainable character trait, successes will be transient, like a flash in the pan. My biggest advice to you for lasting success is that it is very important for you to combine all these things you've learned here: endurance training, locking onto the target, defining your purpose, and adding meaning to sports. Such achievements are very important and valuable in a person's life. When you receive your cups, I want you to know that we are here with you and that we support you," he said.
Üsküdar Teams Became Champions in the University League
Üsküdar University sports teams, which achieved outstanding successes in the University League, celebrated their accomplishments in football, women's volleyball, women's and men's basketball, and korfball with Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan and Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka.
The athletes also shared their joy of medals and cups with Tarhan and Zelka.
Young athletes became 1st League Champions in the Super League promotion matches in the football category.
In Futsal, they achieved success as 1st League finalists in the Super League promotion matches.
The Women's Volleyball team, becoming Istanbul Champion undefeated in the Women's Volleyball category and qualifying for the University League Super League promotion matches, also completed the promotion matches undefeated and became the 1st League Turkish Champion.
The Men's Basketball team was promoted to the Super League as the 1st League Champion in the University League Super League promotion matches.
The Women's Basketball Team was promoted to the 1st League in the University League matches.
The Korfball Team qualified for promotion to the Super League as the 1st League finalist in the University League.
Tarhan congratulated the administrative staff of the SKS Department and team coaches, who made significant contributions to the achievements in sports, while presenting his book 'Being a Conscious Young Person' to the athletes.
