The university's 5 research projects, ranging from food security to hydrogen technologies, wastewater treatment to sustainable agriculture, and environmental ethics, along with 13 scientific event proposals, were accepted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for the COP31 YÖK Pavilion.

While 2 of the university's research projects will be presented on shared digital screens, 16 of its studies will be featured in the exhibition area.

Üsküdar University is bringing its scientific projects, developed in line with climate change combat and sustainable future goals, to the international platform.

Within the scope of COP31, which will be held in Antalya, hosted by Turkey, a total of 18 studies from different academic units of the university were submitted to YÖK during the application process conducted by the Üsküdar University COP31 Coordination Office. All applications were accepted into the COP31 YÖK Pavilion participation program.

Among the accepted studies are research projects, as well as innovative technologies with commercialization potential, international cooperation initiatives, and scientific events addressing various dimensions of climate change.

Two research projects to be featured on digital screens

According to the announced participation program, two research projects from Üsküdar University will be included in the shared digital screen presentations.

The first of these projects will be “First Response Nutrition Kit Bag for Anticipated Potential Earthquakes: Evaluating the Fulfillment of Food Needs for Celiac Individuals, and Meals Provided to Earthquake Victims and Food Aid Products at Distribution Points Following the Kahramanmaraş Province Earthquake,” conducted under the leadership of Prof. Müge Arslan.

The project, which focuses on the challenges faced by individuals with special dietary needs during disaster periods, is significant for disaster preparedness and food security.

The second study to be featured on digital screens will be the research titled “Treatment of Gold Processing Industry Wastewaters with Electrocoagulation Process: Applicability and Performance Analysis,” led by Asst. Prof. İnci Karakaş.

The project, which addresses technological solutions for the treatment of industrial wastewaters, will be evaluated in terms of environmental sustainability and water resource protection.

Hydrogen storage, agricultural biotechnology, and environmental ethics at COP31

Projects to be featured in the exhibition area include the international cooperation project “Al-Mizan: An Islamic Covenant for the Earth from Concept to Practice” led by Prof. İbrahim Özdemir, “Development of Safe Gaseous Hydrogen Tank Design and Prototype Manufacturing” led by Assoc. Prof. Müge Ensari Özay, and “Enhancing Cotton Plant Quality Using CRISPR/Cas Technology (ASTER TEXTILE COTTON PROJECT)” led by Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan.

The five accepted projects cover interdisciplinary studies developed in the fields of food security, hydrogen storage, wastewater treatment technologies, environmental ethics, and sustainable agricultural biotechnology.

13 scientific event proposals accepted

Üsküdar University's 13 seminar and event proposals submitted within the scope of COP31 were also accepted by YÖK and included in the exhibition program.

With events covering topics such as climate change, environmental awareness, food and agriculture, public health, sustainability, and green transformation, the aim is to bring scientific knowledge to society and raise awareness about the climate crisis.

Thus, the university will be represented at COP31 not only with its research and technology development studies but also with its scientific events addressing the social and health-related impacts of climate change.

Climate change is being addressed from various perspectives with “Towards COP31” seminars

Üsküdar University is also continuing its COP31 preparations with scientific events organized before the conference.

Within the scope of the “Towards COP31: Sustainable Future Seminars” and “COP31: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Climate Change” webinar series, the environmental, technological, social, and health-related dimensions of climate change are being evaluated with the participation of academics.

In events bringing together experts from different disciplines, it is emphasized that climate change is not merely an environmental problem; it affects numerous areas such as energy, production, food, health, and social life.

Green industrialization on the agenda with university-industry collaboration

Üsküdar University also shares its university-industry collaboration efforts with the public within the scope of COP31 preparations.

In the “Project Journey with ARGEYEP” program broadcast on ÜÜ TV, green industrialization towards COP31 and the contribution of innovative technologies to sustainable production were discussed.

In the program featuring Nurcan Mert, R&D Center Manager of Karbonsan A.Ş., as a guest, university-industry collaboration and the contributions of innovative technologies to green industrialization were evaluated, focusing on the “Development of Safe Gaseous Hydrogen Tank Design and Prototype Manufacturing” project.

Üsküdar University aims to contribute to the fight against climate change and the construction of a sustainable future through its work focused on scientific research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and societal contribution.

Detailed information regarding the university's projects and events within the scope of COP31 can be accessed from the COP31 Coordination Office website.
