Üsküdar University established the Addiction Fight Coordination Unit to carry out more effective work in the fight against addiction. What are the duties and responsibilities of the Unit?
The Addiction Fight Coordination Unit aims to protect public health and contribute to the fight against addiction. Among the primary goals of the Coordination Unit are the formation of addiction fight policies and taking precautions against elements that threaten public health. Preventive efforts will be prioritized in many areas within the scope of addiction fight, such as technology, gaming, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, and substance addiction.

The Coordination Unit was divided into two main boards: the Scientific Board and the Executive Board. The Scientific Board, established under the chairmanship of Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, will work to develop strategies, formulate policies, and prepare action plans in the fight against addiction. This board will consist of expert faculty members in the field of addiction and will develop national and international collaborations, reporting their annual work plans to the administration.

The Executive Board will organize projects
The Executive Board, chaired by Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, will convene under the presidency of the rector or a vice-rector appointed by them. This board will undertake the task of preparing scientific and administrative plans in line with the objectives determined by the Scientific Board and guiding their implementation. Furthermore, the Executive Board will organize relevant projects by forming sub-committees in the field of addiction fight.
Meanwhile, Üsküdar University's Addiction Fight Coordination Unit's Operating Directive was also published. This directive came into force with the Senate decision dated October 24, 2024.
