International aromatherapy training in France for Üsküdar University students

Students of Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program experienced current practices in the fields of aromatherapy, natural cosmetics, and perfumery on-site during an international vocational training program held in the Provence region of France. Within the scope of the program, which brought together scientific education and industry practices, students visited long-established production centers in Europe, received training from international experts, and had the opportunity to examine production processes on-site.

A group of students, led by Asst. Prof. Tuğba Kaman from Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program, participated in a vocational study and training program organized by the Aromatherapy Association in the Provence region of France.

Within the scope of the program, which focused on aromatherapy, natural cosmetics, and perfumery, students visited Europe's leading production facilities, observed production processes on-site, received training from international experts, and reinforced their professional knowledge through practical studies.

Traditional production of Marseille soap examined on-site

The first stop of the program was Savonnerie Fer à Cheval, which has been maintaining the traditional production of Marseille soap since 1856.

Students visited the production facility where natural soap is produced using the traditional cauldron method, getting the opportunity to closely examine the production stages and the traditional production culture maintained for years.

They participated in international clinical aromatherapy training

Within the scope of the program, participation was provided in the “Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy for Respiratory Conditions” training given by international clinical aromatherapy expert Rhiannon Lewis in Grasse, known as the perfume capital of France.

During the training, students had the opportunity to evaluate the scientific uses of essential oils in respiratory system diseases in line with current research and evidence-based practices.

At the end of the program, Dr. Tuğba Kaman and the participating students qualified to receive their international participation certificates.

Production processes in the field of perfumery experienced

Within the scope of the Grasse program, Galimard Parfumeur, one of France's long-established perfume manufacturers operating since 1747, was also visited.

During the visit, students also had the opportunity to design their own perfumes and experience practices in the field of perfumery.

Practical training received at lavender production centers

Within the scope of the vocational study program, Castellane, located in the inland areas of Provence, and the Valensole Plateau, one of Europe's most important lavender production regions, were visited.

Students examined the cultivation processes of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are among the main raw materials of aromatherapy, on-site and gained practical knowledge about production techniques.

They had the opportunity to observe organic aromatherapy production processes on-site

The final stop of the program was Florihana, one of the world's leading organic aromatherapy producers.

Here, students received comprehensive information about the production processes of essential oils, hydrolats, and herbal extracts, while also having the opportunity to examine quality control practices, distillation technologies, and sustainable production methods on-site.

Evaluating the trip, Asst. Prof. Tuğba Kaman stated that supporting theoretical knowledge with practical application is of great importance for professional development. Kaman said, “International experiences significantly contribute to students' professional development.”

Kaman stated that international educational organizations offer significant contributions to students' academic and professional development, emphasizing that observing production processes on-site, meeting international experts in the field, and experiencing current practices in aromatherapy strengthen students' professional perspectives.

Kaman also thanked the Aromatherapy Association for contributing to the realization of the program.
