Üsküdar Üniversitesi and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi participated in this year's 17th EEG and Clinical Neuroscience Society (ECNS) congress. The congress, hosted by Halifax, Canada, between October 27-28, saw the participation of Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan as session chair, along with Prof. Dr. Kemal Arıkan, Prof. Dr. Barış Metin, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Cihan Taştan, who presented their ongoing studies. The 18th congress will be held in Turkey, hosted by Üsküdar Üniversitesi, between September 3-7.

Scientists from Üsküdar Üniversitesi and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, who continue to present their work at international conferences, participated in the 17th ECNS conference. The congress, hosted by Halifax, Canada, on October 27-28, attracted significant interest.
Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who chaired the session titled "Neuropsychiatric Approaches to AI Technologies," shared the contribution of data's evolution with Industry 4.0 transformation, the increasing data volume and resolution to neuroimaging applications, and the development of big data analysis processes in his presentation titled "New Approaches in Psychiatry and NP Model."
He explained the 'NP Model' in healthcare…
Tarhan, sharing literature studies on the diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic capabilities of developed AI-based models, emphasized the importance of studies in the literature regarding biomarkers such as classical QEEG, Cordance, Entropy, Loreta, Theta/Beta ratio (NEBA), and their contribution to biomarker development processes. He particularly addressed the effective applications of Deep Learning-based studies in the processes of obtaining new biomarkers. He provided information about the operating principles and goals of the "NP Model: AI and Image Processing Based Hospital Information Management System" interface, for which a patent application has been made and the first version (V1) completed for OCD-Healthy control groups.
How do statistical data affect diagnosis and treatment?
Prof. Dr. Kemal Arıkan, a faculty member at Üsküdar Üniversitesi, who contributed to the conference with his presentation titled "Digitalization of Psychiatric Records Means a lot for Clinicians," shared, along with his studies, how the results obtained from data processed with statistical methods contribute to clinicians' diagnosis and treatment processes.
How do attention deficit and hyperactivity affect the brain?
Prof. Dr. Barış Metin, who participated in the conference with his presentation titled "Distinct neural correlates of attention problems and delay discounting deficits in ADHD," presented his study, conducted with the support of Üsküdar Üniversitesi's BAP fund, which examined brain MRI images of individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Metin indicated that attention disorders and impulsivity in ADHD result from the affection of different brain structures, and also shared the information that the study is expected to have a widespread impact upon its publication in the coming months.
They are working for national medicine…
At the conference, Dr. Cihan Taştan, a faculty member at Üsküdar Üniversitesi and Director of TRGENMER, also presented his work titled "Bioinformatic Analysis of Genetic Profiles in Neurological Disorders." Speaking about his study, Taştan stated that this work aims to research epigenetic mechanisms using transgenic cell technologies and to develop drug candidate molecules based on these identified mechanisms. While the study is important for contributing to our country's position in this field globally and to the development of national medicine, Taştan also explained the importance of bioinformatics analyses with genetic data for understanding neurological diseases. He also provided information about the ongoing AiTISM project, an Artificial Intelligence-based Autism Disease Diagnosis and Personalized Treatment project.
