The 8th G20 - Neuroscience20 (BRAIN- SPINE- MENTAL- HEALTH) conference, organized by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics - SBMT, which was founded in 2013 and brings together distinguished researchers in neuroscience, primarily from the USA, was held. Researchers from Türkiye, led by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan from Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, also participated in the conference. The session where Üsküdar University, which hosted the 2nd G20 summit in 2015, shared its work especially in the field of neuroscience, attracted significant interest from researchers from 15 countries.

The G20 Leaders' Summit, which brings together leaders of the world's 20 leading major economies and representatives of international organizations, began in Rome, Italy, hosted by Italy.

In this context, the 8th G20 - Neuroscience20 (BRAIN- SPINE- MENTAL- HEALTH) conference, organized by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), was held.

Artificial intelligence and image processing-based hospital information management system

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who was elected as the President of the Brain Initiative (MeBrain+ Initiative) by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), covering the Middle East, Balkans, and surrounding countries, gave a presentation within the scope of neurotechnologies, the new focus of brain research. In the session titled "NeuroTech - In silico applications in Neuroscience & Brain Informatics", Tarhan drew attention to the importance of biomarkers in psychiatric diseases, discussing classical biomarkers and next-generation artificial intelligence-supported biomarkers.

Tarhan also provided comprehensive information to the participants about the "Artificial intelligence and image processing-based hospital information management system," for which a patent application was filed for NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital.

A new product from Üsküdar University: BrainAtica tDCS

Dr. Ihabb Elaff, Faculty Member from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and a researcher at BrainAtica, a medical device design and development company established within the university, informed SBMT participants about the tDCS device they developed and for which CE certification was obtained, its features, technical specifications, and its advantages over existing tDCS devices.

EEG-Based Biomarkers

In his study on biomarkers derived from EEG signals, Prof. Dr. Barış Metin shared with the audience the research conducted on entropy and potential markers obtained through different entropy calculation methods, the results obtained, the shortcomings and strengths of machine learning-based feature extraction studies, and the importance of deep learning-based studies in the coming years.

TMS Treatment in Women and Men

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, in his presentation titled "A deep learning approach to evaluating sex differences in antidepressant response to neuromodulation using EEG in major depressive disorder," a study conducted in collaboration with Stanford University and completed with the International Brain Research Consortium, shared striking results regarding women's proximity to treatment response when comparing the rTMS treatment responses of women and men.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar University and Psychiatrist, had been awarded the Golden Axon Leadership Award, which was given to Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel in 2018, for his inspiring work in the field of brain research and his role in raising awareness about the foundation and its mission through strategic programs, global collaborations, and partnerships.
