The 2024-2025 academic year at Üsküdar University commenced with the orientation program for the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry. On the first day of the orientation program, held with the participation of academic and administrative staff, students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry gathered. Within the scope of the program, departments and directorates operating under Üsküdar University provided pre-class information to the new members of the Üsküdar family.

The orientation program was held at the Ibn-i Sina Auditorium on the Health Campus.

The opening speeches of the new academic year orientation program, held in two different sessions, were delivered by Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak, Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, and Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel.

Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak: “Medicine is a lifestyle rather than just a profession”

Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak stated that medicine is based on love for humanity. Koçak said: “Today is the first day for our students who have enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine. They are no longer just students; they have embraced a profession and become our colleagues. I welcome all of you. Medicine is a lifestyle rather than just a profession. It is based on love for humanity. I want to remind you that first impressions are important; today, all our departments will introduce themselves to you.”

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur: “University life is like the rough draft of real life”

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur spoke about the importance of university life. Sur said: “University life is essentially like the rough draft of real life. You must be the kind of person you want to be in life during your university years. Otherwise, you cannot live with one personality at university and then change that personality in real life.”

Following the Faculty of Medicine orientation, an orientation was held for students of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel: “A faculty's sine qua non is its students”

Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel provided information to the students. Yücel said: “I am very happy to see you here. You have reached another stage of your arduous educational journey. I hope that together we will complete this stage here and send you forth as doctors to the dentistry family. The sine qua non of a faculty is its students; without students, it wouldn't be a faculty. Therefore, you have completed us this year as well.”

Attention was also drawn to the “META-TIP” project…

Subsequently, Emre Kaan Şanverdi, a third-year Computer Engineering student at Üsküdar University, provided information about the META-TIP project, which was established under the leadership of Üsküdar University students. Şanverdi spoke about the project, which enables the scanning and digitalization of real organs using 3D VR headsets to provide better education for students and researchers, especially in medical faculties. He stated: “We established a company called META-TIP at the intersection of medicine and engineering. We saw the limited practical opportunities in cadaver training and the costs of cadavers as a problem and developed a solution for it. Some universities do not have cadavers, but our university does. We encountered this problem due to cadaver costs and lack of practical application, and we created a solution. Our solution here provides digitalized cadaver access in VR. We offer VR cadaver access 24/7 from your home or anywhere. And we are doing this with a 3D system, not a 2D one.”
