Üsküdar University continues to raise awareness among families through its educational activities organized within the scope of Parent Academies. In this context, at the 'Family Communication' seminar held at Sancaktepe Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Secondary School, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Edibe Serra Erol made important evaluations regarding the decisive role of healthy communication in children's development.

Project Specialist, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Edibe Serra Erol, who met with parents in the seminar held by Üsküdar University within the scope of Parent Academies, explained that the communication style within the family directly affects children's psychological, emotional, and social development.

In the program held with high participation, the establishment of trust in family communication, the importance of a family environment where children can freely express their feelings and thoughts, the effect of parental attitudes on children's personality development, and suggestions for developing healthy communication skills were shared.

Healthy communication forms the foundation of a strong family structure

In the seminar, it was emphasized that effective communication established among family members is not only an element that facilitates daily life but also plays an important role in shaping children's self-confidence development, problem-solving skills, and social relationships.

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Edibe Serra Erol pointed out that parents listening to their children without judgment, empathizing, and developing a communication language open to sharing emotions strengthens family bonds. It was stated that healthy communication supports children in feeling valuable and contributes to the creation of a trusting environment within the family.

Great interest from parents

Throughout the seminar, common communication problems encountered in family life, intergenerational communication differences, and the fundamental principles of establishing healthy relationships with children were discussed. Participants had the opportunity to learn about scientific-based solution proposals for communication problems they might encounter in daily life.

In the question-and-answer session held at the end of the program, parents directed their questions to Specialist Clinical Psychologist Edibe Serra Erol. In the interactive session, while evaluations were made regarding the communication problems experienced by families, methods that can be applied for the sustainability of healthy family relationships were shared.
