Üsküdar University continues to strengthen its international collaborations in health sciences. Following recent academic engagements in Egypt, this time an important figure from the United States visited Üsküdar. Former President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and University of Connecticut faculty member Prof. Seema Krupp met with President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör, and faculty members. The meeting addressed potential joint projects between the two universities.


The meeting, held at the NP Health Campus, was attended by President of Üsküdar University Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Ergün Yücel, and Faculty Member of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Fulya Üçem.

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan provided a comprehensive overview of Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital’s scientific studies and infrastructure.
The discussions covered recent developments in orofacial pain, potential joint projects between the two universities, academic exchange programs, and scientific events.


Üsküdar could take a leading role in the field
As part of the visit, Prof. Krupp delivered a presentation, sharing details of her research at the University of Connecticut and emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of orofacial pain. It was also highlighted that Üsküdar University could assume a pioneering role in the field of orofacial pain, which has not yet been established as an independent discipline in Türkiye.

Üsküdar University has the necessary scientific infrastructure
As one of Türkiye’s leading institutions in psychology and neurology, Üsküdar University possesses the scientific infrastructure required for orofacial pain studies. The psychology and neuroscience perspective plays a critical role in diagnosis and treatment, while the pioneering work of Dr. Fulya Üçem on joint disorders and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) contributes significantly to laying the foundation for the first institutional collaboration in this field in Türkiye.
