Üsküdar University Meets Global Leaders in Orofacial Pain Field

Üsküdar University continues to strengthen its international collaborations in health sciences. Following recent academic contacts in Egypt, this time an important figure from America visited Üsküdar. Prof. Dr. Seema Krupp, former president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and a faculty member at the University of Connecticut, met with Üsküdar University Founding Rector Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, and academics. During the meeting, potential joint projects to be implemented between the two universities were discussed.

The meeting held at the NP Health Campus was attended by Üsküdar University Founding Rector Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fulya Üçem from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan provided comprehensive information on the scientific work and infrastructure of Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi.

During the meeting, current developments in the field of orofacial pain, as well as joint projects, academic exchange programs, and scientific events that could be implemented between the two universities, were discussed.

It was stated that Üsküdar could assume a pioneering role in the field

Prof. Dr. Krupp gave a presentation during the meeting. In her presentation, she shared information about her research conducted at the University of Connecticut and emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in orofacial pain treatment.

Furthermore, it was stated that Üsküdar University could assume a pioneering role in the field of orofacial pain, which is not yet established as an independent discipline in Turkey.

Üsküdar University, one of Turkey's leading institutions in psychology and neurology, possesses the necessary scientific infrastructure for orofacial pain studies.

While psychology and neuroscience perspectives play a critical role in diagnosis and treatment in this field, the contributions of Assistant Professor Dr. Fulya Üçem, known for her pioneering work on joint disorders and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), also provide a significant contribution towards establishing the first institutional collaboration in this area in Turkey.
