The Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), one of the international associations operating in many fields of specialization and located in California, formed its first global Neuro-Technology Consortium in psychiatry by partnering with Üsküdar University.

Tarhan: "We invite all other associations and universities to join us"

For the "22nd Neuro-Technology Congress" to be held in Los Angeles, USA, between February 27 and March 2, 2025, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar University, President of the Middle East Brain Initiative (ME+), and Board Member of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), stated:

"Üsküdar University has been at the forefront of patient care, and with this consortium, we invite all other associations, universities, pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, and cell technology companies to join us in designing better diagnostic and clinical solutions for patients suffering from mental disorders."

Prof. Dr. Thomas Schulze, President-Elect of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) and SBMT Board Member, also stated, "I am truly delighted that Üsküdar University and SBMT have come together to lead and invite other associations and pharmaceutical companies to participate in this important work."

This collaboration will be opened to all universities and industry leaders

It was also stated that the congress, where many presentations will be made and interviews will take place by researchers and physicians from Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, including Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi Neurology Specialist Prof. Dr. Barış Metin, and Prof. Dr. Sevim Işık from Üsküdar University's Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, will open this collaboration to all universities and industry leaders.

The consortium aims to develop and grow

The Neuro-Technology Consortium aims to develop and grow with the "22nd Neuro-Technology Congress," comprising 15 sessions covering topics such as skull base surgery, spinal surgery, epilepsy, neuromodulation, neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis), neurotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, neuro-engineering, cell and immunotherapy, neuro-oncology, autism, neuropsychiatric disorders, neuroradiology, functional neurosurgery, nanotechnology, neuro-photonics, sports medicine, neurotrauma and military medicine, ophthalmology and optometry, as well as bio-skill labs showcasing the latest technologies and pharmaceutical interventions for surgical training (skull base, peripheral nerve, and eye surgeries).

"An exciting consortium..."

Dr. Dave Baron, Professor of Psychiatry at Western University, SBMT board member, and co-chair of the SBMT Psychiatry subcommittee, also stated, "This is truly an exciting consortium and a unique congress, which I highly recommend to my psychiatrist colleagues because the scientists and groups you meet in this consortium are world-class. This year, in addition to many other luminaries and world-renowned scientists, there are Olympians on the sports psychiatry panel."

Innovative treatments to be discussed in panels

NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi Psychiatry Specialist Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz will moderate the panel "Current Protocols for Neuropsychiatric Disorders in Turkey." The panel will discuss the latest research, clinical approaches, and innovative treatments, including neurotechnological interventions, pharmacological therapies, and integrative mental health strategies.

Üsküdar University Head of Software Engineering Department and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel will also serve as co-moderator for the "Telepsychiatry and Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health Panel."

Sessions featuring international researchers will cover topics such as The Role of Sports in Mental Health, The Past, Present, and Future of Psychiatric Education, Substance Use Disorders, Advances in Genomics, Clinical Research and Community Psychiatry, International Collaboration in Psychiatry: Challenges and Opportunities, and Brain Stimulation and Neuromodulation.

The consortium also includes delegations from the USA, Europe, Middle East, and Asia

It was noted that this consortium gained momentum after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Üsküdar University and SBMT, and was established with the aim of accelerating neuro-diagnostics and treatments through the transformation, sharing, integration, and commercialization of neuro-technologies. It was also reported that the consortium includes delegations from the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Dr. Keerthy Sunder, Co-Chair of the SBMT Psychiatry Subcommittee and President of the Sunder Foundation, stated, "We believe that the Congress will not only be a platform for sharing scientific work but also an environment where interdisciplinary collaboration will be strengthened, and new opportunities in neuropsychiatry will be explored."

Work is being carried out in the fields of brain, behavior, and health sciences

Üsküdar University, in addition to being an institution that closely follows scientific developments, is also a university that conducts significant work in the fields of brain, behavior, and health sciences. The World Brain Mapping Foundation, Massoudi Foundation, and Aramis Therapeutics are among the key partners expanding this global consortium with SBMT and Üsküdar University.
