The Üsküdar University English Preparatory School Debate Team participated in the “Echoes of Reason: The Debate” (Akıl Yankıları: Münazara) event organized by İstanbul University, discussing today's most important global issues on an academic platform. At the event held at İstanbul University Central Library, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market and the balance between economic growth and environmental protection were addressed in a debate format.

Hosted by İstanbul University, the event, with the participation of students from different universities, revolved around two main focal points that challenged students to analyze the most defining dilemmas of the 21st century. In the debate tournament, which saw intense participation, teams defended their arguments with academic dynamics.

Impacts of artificial intelligence on the workforce discussed

In the first part of the debate, students addressed the effects of technological transformation on working life. Participants defended their views through the proposition, “Artificial intelligence will bring more harm than good to the labor market,” evaluating the potential impacts of artificial intelligence on employment, productivity, the transformation of professions, and economic structures.

Within the scope of the discussions, both the potential of artificial intelligence technologies to create new opportunities and risks such as job losses and professional transformation were examined from different perspectives.

Balance between economic growth and environmental protection addressed

In the second part of the event, the thesis “Prioritizing economic growth over environmental protection” was laid out. Students discussed the relationship between the economic development needs of developing countries and climate change, sustainability, and environmental protection policies.

Throughout the debate, the impacts of economic growth on social welfare and the long-term importance of environmental sustainability were evaluated within the framework of different arguments.

Contributed to academic interaction and critical thinking skills

The event enabled students from different universities to come together in an academic environment and exchange ideas. Participants had the opportunity to develop critical thinking, effective communication, and argumentation skills while discussing current global issues.

The event, completed in an atmosphere of mutual academic respect and cooperation, contributed to the inter-university debate efforts of the Üsküdar University Preparatory School Debate Team, and also increased students' motivation for future academic organizations.
