Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş, Deputy Director of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) and Head of Emergency and Disaster Management Program, participated in the 'Integrated Disaster Criteria Kadıköy 2030 Symposium' organized by Kadıköy Municipality. At the symposium, efforts to reduce disaster risks and increase urban resilience were discussed. Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş also completed the 'Disaster Awareness Trainer Training' organized by AFAD. Within the scope of the training, topics such as risk reduction measures to be taken before a disaster, individual and societal preparation, appropriate behaviors during a disaster, and the dissemination of disaster awareness were covered.

Üsküdar University continues its efforts for disaster-resilient cities

At the symposium held on September 30 - October 1, local governments, public institutions, universities, non-governmental organizations, and field experts came together.
Within the scope of the program, disaster risk governance, building stock management, resilience of critical infrastructures, urban risk analysis, community-based risk reduction, and education and awareness studies were evaluated.
Urban transformation and building safety discussed
Urban transformation and building stock formed one of the prominent agenda topics of the symposium. It was emphasized that urban transformation should be addressed not only as a physical renewal process but also together with structural safety, strengthening applications, digital building inventory, and building health monitoring systems.
In creating disaster-resilient cities, in addition to safe construction, the importance of strengthening inter-institutional coordination, keeping risk analyses up-to-date, ensuring the continuity of critical infrastructures, and increasing the community's level of disaster preparedness was highlighted.

Disaster awareness trainings strengthen institutional capacity
Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş also completed the Disaster Awareness Trainer Training organized by AFAD. The training consisted of classroom education held on October 1-2 and an oral and written evaluation process held on October 6.
Within the scope of the training, topics such as risk reduction measures to be taken before a disaster, individual and societal preparation, appropriate behaviors during a disaster, and the dissemination of disaster awareness were covered.
The training aims to contribute to disaster awareness efforts to be carried out within Üsküdar University and to support strengthening students' knowledge and awareness levels regarding disaster preparedness.
