Üsküdar University is preparing to host an important event. The Balkans and Middle East Brain Initiative Summit, organized by Üsküdar University and the "Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics - SBMT," will take place in Istanbul on July 1-2-3, 2022. At the congress, where global pioneers in brain mapping will meet, over 50 scientists from universities in Turkey, Iran, and Egypt will discuss the latest developments in brain diseases and treatments.
At the Balkans and Middle East Brain Initiative Summit, which will continue for three days at Üsküdar University NP Dental and Health Campus, the goal is to address neurological disorders in the Balkans and the Middle East and to establish a regional consortium on brain, spinal, and mental health. Scientists from distinguished universities in Turkey and various countries around the world will participate with presentations at the summit, where brain surgery, neurology, neuroradiology, psychiatry, neurotechnology, neuroengineering, and related policies will be discussed.
Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who has served as President of the Brain Initiative (MeBrain+ Initiative) for a year, and Dr. Babak Kateb will deliver an opening speech.
An Honorary Doctorate to be Presented to Dr. Babak Kateb
At the opening ceremony, an "Honorary Doctorate Presentation Ceremony" will also be held by Üsküdar University for Dr. Babak Kateb, in recognition of his valuable contributions to neuroscience studies on a regional and global scale and his high dedication to the treatment of brain diseases.
Deep TMS Method to be Discussed
At the summit, Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz, Psychiatrist from Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, will present on “Deep TMS and Addiction”; Akın Akakın from Bahçeşehir University on “Deep TMS Applications”; Bahar Güntekin from Medipol University on “EEG Event-Related Oscillations in Dementia”; Kemal Arıkan from Üsküdar University on “Prognostic Value of EEG in Manic Switching Associated with Antidepressant Drugs”; and Prof. Dr. Barış Metin, Neurologist from Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, on “Deep Learning Approach to Classifying Bipolar Disorder Topics.”
Scientists from Iran Brain Initiative to Participate with Presentations
At the summit, where Christoph Glaser is the keynote speaker, scientists from the Iran Brain Initiative will also participate with their presentations. In the session chaired by Mohammad Nami, Middle East Ambassador for Harvard Alumni in Mental Health, Jalal Jalal Shokouhi from the Iranian Society of Radiology will present on “Neurotrauma Imaging”; Maryam Noroozian from Tehran University of Medical Sciences on “Dementia and Cognitive Disorders in the Middle East: Threats and Solutions”; Sajad Sahab Negah from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences on “Exosomes Versus Stem Cells During Traumatic Brain Injury”; and Mojtaba Barzega, CEO and founder of IQBMI LLC, on “The Role of Advanced Neuroimaging Techniques in Brain Mapping.”
Egypt Brain Initiative to Share New Developments
Scientists from the Egypt Brain Initiative, chaired by Mohamed Fahmy Zeid, will also make significant contributions to the summit. At the summit, where Dr. Babak Kateb is an invited speaker, Mohamed Ahmed Fahmy Zeid from Alexandria University will present on “A New Aspiration, Irrigation, and Dissection Microsurgical Forceps with Bipolar Coagulation Features”; Sahar Elkaradawy on “Barriers to Adequate Pain Treatment”; Ebtesam Abdalla on “Unraveling the Molecular Basis of Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Egypt”; Jaidaa Mekky on “Establishing a Sleep Disorder Unit: Challenges and Requirements”; and Nasser El-Ghandour from Cairo University on “E-Learning and E-Training for all Continental Countries from Egypt.”
On the first day of the summit, a panel will also take place with Rialda Kovacevic as an invited speaker. Speakers from the USA, UK, Italy, and Indonesia will participate in the panel, which will be chaired by Dr. Babak Kateb. Summit attendees will also visit NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital.
On the second and third days of the summit, sessions will be held on neurotechnology, neuropsychiatry, neurooncology, epilepsy and Connectomics, neurotrauma (Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries), and movement disorders.
