Üsküdar University, which has drawn attention with its academic work and artificial intelligence applications in Health Sciences since its establishment in 2011, has been offering a course titled “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Innovation in Healthcare" to its Faculty of Medicine students for a year… Thus, Faculty of Medicine students can observe modeling approaches used especially in big data analysis through project-based applications.

Paradigm Shift in Personalized Medicine Applications

In Health Sciences, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) play a significant role with their potential for innovation, disease diagnosis, monitoring, and predicting treatment response, while also transforming the way healthcare services are delivered. With high resolution and evolving data collection tools, health data paves the way for many exciting new discoveries in clinical interpretation processes, especially in biomarker detection. The paradigm shift towards precision medicine with high-speed machines and big data through AI applications has become even more apparent in recent years. Throughout this process, predictive models created with deep learning algorithms, replacing old-generation superficial learning algorithms, provide physicians with higher accuracy in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment processes using raw data.

Widespread adoption of high-accuracy models in diagnosis and treatment will be ensured…

Üsküdar University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, has been pursuing this vision for over 10 years with its "Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Application and Research Center" and its "Therapeutic Brain Mapping, Biological Psychiatry, and Neurotechnology Working Group", where the fields of psychiatry, psychology, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and engineering collaborate through interdisciplinary studies.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan emphasizes the importance of the subject with his statements, "Artificial intelligence technologies will eliminate the need for a physician's wisdom," while aiming for the widespread use of high-accuracy models in health sciences that combine a physician's knowledge and clinical experience, can make rapid decisions, and aid in diagnosis and treatment processes...

Completion of the clinical interpretation project is aimed…

With the 'Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Innovation' course, which was opened at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine and taken by all students from their 4th year onwards, prospective physicians are equipped with the ability to develop basic coding skills with a programming language, learn concepts of big data, machine learning, image processing, optimization, and modeling, and use and interpret them with application tools. Üsküdar University, which is currently conducting big data analysis studies with its scientific and application partner NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi and has secured an international patent for the application developed in this process, completes the clinical interpretation project of the model result obtained from big data by analyzing raw neuroimaging data at the end of the 16-week curriculum.

AI and Data-Focused Courses Contribute to Clinical Competence…

Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Application and Research Center, stated that they believe AI and big data-focused courses, which are also offered in the Faculties of Medicine at universities such as Harvard, Stanford, and Imperial College London, provide students with complementary skills in developing and diversifying their basic and clinical competencies.
