A symposium titled “A Holistic View of the Substance Addiction Process: Multidisciplinary Approaches” was held under the auspices of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Health Sciences. Academics from Üsküdar University participated in the symposium and shared up-to-date scientific approaches related to their respective fields.

Üsküdar University academics took part in the Substance Addiction Symposium

The symposium was held at the Farabi Conference Hall of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Health Sciences, Büyükçekmece Campus. Participants from Üsküdar University included Prof. Cemal Onur Noyan, faculty member of the Department of Mental Health and Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine; Cumali Aydın, Clinical Psychologist at NPİSTANBUL Hospital; and Research Assistant Beyzanur Dikmen Hoşbaş from the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Prof. Cemal Onur Noyan explained the neurobiology of addiction
Prof. Cemal Onur Noyan delivered a presentation titled “The Neurobiology of Substance Addiction and the Pharmacotherapeutic Approach”, in which he addressed the biological foundations of the addiction process in the light of scientific evidence.

Cognitive behavioral interventions in addiction were discussed
Clinical Psychologist Cumali Aydın from NPİSTANBUL Hospital presented a talk titled “Cognitive Behavioral Interventions in Addiction and the Management of Relapse”, sharing information on current therapeutic methods used in addiction treatment and strategies for managing the relapse process.

The importance of exercise in the rehabilitation process was emphasized
Research Assistant Beyzanur Dikmen Hoşbaş from the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation highlighted the contribution of exercise to physical and psychosocial recovery in rehabilitation processes in her presentation titled “Exercise Approaches in Addiction.”
A multidisciplinary approach to substance addiction
At the symposium, where academics from different disciplines contributed, current scientific approaches to substance addiction, rehabilitation models, and holistic evaluation processes were discussed from a multidisciplinary perspective.
