PEVoC 16 (Pan-European Voice Conference 16), one of Europe's most prestigious scientific organizations, brought together experts working in the field of voice science. The congress, held biennially in different European cities, took place in Istanbul this year with international participation, and Üsküdar University academicians also took an active role in the event. Within the scope of the congress, the poster presentation prepared by Asst. Prof. Maral Yeşilyurt and her students won the first prize for “Best Poster Presentation”.

The 16th meeting of the congress, considered one of the world's most comprehensive organizations in the field of voice, was held together with the “Voice Istanbul” event. With intense participation from international scientists, experts from various countries took part in the scientific and organizational committees of the congress.

Asst. Prof. Maral Yeşilyurt, Asst. Prof. Göksu Yılmaz, Research Asst. Ceren Söğüt from the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Üsküdar University; Prof. Ceki Paltura from the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases, Faculty of Medicine; Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan, Director of the Transgenic Cell Technologies and Epigenetic Research Center (TRGENMER); and Beyza Aydın, TRGENMER R&D Manager, participated in the congress.

“Best Poster Presentation” award goes to Üsküdar University

At the congress, the work prepared by Asst. Prof. Maral Yeşilyurt and her students received great acclaim. Yeşilyurt and her team won the first prize for “Best Poster Presentation” with their poster presentation.

Students from the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Hanife Nur Tağıl, Zeynep Nur Arar, Yaren Nisa Özcan, and İremnaz Koç, took an active role in the award-winning study. This achievement once again demonstrated that Üsküdar University’s student-centered approach to scientific production has found a strong resonance on an international platform.

Multidisciplinary approach to the scientific foundations of voice

During the sessions held within the scope of the congress, Üsküdar University academicians addressed the scientific dimension of voice with a multidisciplinary approach. Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan and Beyza Aydın from Molecular Biology, and Asst. Prof. Maral Yeşilyurt, Asst. Prof. Göksü Tarakçı, and Research Asst. Ceren Söğüt from Speech and Language Therapy participated with their presentations.

Voice at the molecular level…

In this context, oral presentations titled “Molecular Dynamics of Voice Production: Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Genetic Response Mechanisms” and “From Voice Physiology to Molecular Genetics” were delivered by Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan, Director of TRGENMER, and Beyza Aydın, TRGENMER R&D Manager. The presentations focused on evaluating voice production at the molecular level within the framework of oxidative stress, inflammation, and genetic response mechanisms.

Additionally, findings regarding the expression levels of genes and related factors responsible for voice production in the space environment were shared within the scope of the ongoing MESSAGE space project. Discussions were held on future project ideas and international collaboration opportunities within the framework of the presentations.

The multidimensional nature of voice discussed

The Pan-European Voice Conference, organized since 1995, serves as an interdisciplinary platform bringing together the scientific, clinical, pedagogical, and artistic dimensions of voice. The congress, which gathers a wide range of participants from otolaryngologists to speech and language therapists, and from vocal coaches to performance artists, shared current research through scientific presentations, panels, workshops, and poster presentations.

At the congress, many topics from voice therapy techniques to phonosurgery, from vocal hygiene to performance anxiety, were discussed, and the multidimensional nature of voice was comprehensively evaluated.

This success, achieved by Üsküdar University with both its academicians and students on international scientific platforms, continues to reinforce the institution's scientific production power and global visibility.
