Üsküdar Üniversitesi Ranks First in Turkey in the “Overall Rankings” Category!

Üsküdar Üniversitesi has been deemed worthy of receiving all 17 labels it applied for, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2024 results. Üsküdar Üniversitesi shared the top spot in Turkey in the “Overall Rankings” category among foundation universities possessing all 17 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) labels.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked among the top 10 foundation universities in all labels, securing 1st place in 2 labels and 3rd place in 5 labels. 
 

Üsküdar Üniversitesi was listed among the world's highest-quality educational institutions according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2024 results. “3-Good Health and Well-being”, “5-Gender Equality”, and “7-Affordable and Clean Energy” stood out as the three most successful labels for our university in the rankings. 

For the 5 labels it applied for in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking in 2023, Üsküdar Üniversitesi achieved a total score of 54.8 out of 100 in the global rankings, placing it in the top 50% among 1591 institutions. 

Received all 17 labels applied for in 2024

The THE Impact Ranking 2024, conducted in October 2023, has been announced. Üsküdar Üniversitesi was deemed worthy of receiving all 17 labels it applied for. 

According to the results, Üsküdar Üniversitesi, which was deemed worthy of receiving all 17 labels it applied for, increased its average score to 62.7 and climbed 10% in the global rankings compared to last year, placing it in the top 40% among 1963 institutions (universities or research institutes).

Among the top 500 in the world rankings

When the ranking of Üsküdar Üniversitesi in the 17 SDG goal labels it qualified for is calculated based on weighted raw data, it places among the top 500 universities in the world. By applying for labels in 17 different areas and competing with other highly ambitious thematic universities globally in these fields, it showed a 10% improvement compared to last year.

First in Turkey in the “Overall Rankings” category…

Üsküdar Üniversitesi shared the top spot in Turkey in the “Overall Rankings” category among foundation universities possessing all 17 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) labels. Furthermore, Üsküdar Üniversitesi achieved a significant success in international rankings by placing in the 801-1000 band among world universities in the same category. 

How did the ranking unfold across 17 labels?

Üsküdar Üniversitesi demonstrated a highly remarkable performance with its academic and social activities carried out under the 17 labels it applied for.

With its activities aimed at ending poverty in all its forms everywhere under the “1-No Poverty” label, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 301-400 globally, 10th among universities in Turkey, and 4th among foundation universities,

While the UN aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture under the “2-Zero Hunger” label, our university, with its activities under this label, ranked between 301-400 globally, 14th among universities in Turkey, and 1st among foundation universities. 

With its contributions to the UN's activities aimed at ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages under the “3-Good Health and Well-being” label, it ranked between 201-300 globally, 6th among universities in Turkey, and 4th among foundation universities. 

The “4-Quality Education” label aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. In this label, Üsküdar Üniversitesi, with its activities carried out in 2023, ranked between 401-600 globally, 26th among universities in Turkey, and 7th among foundation universities.

In its efforts to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls under the “5-Gender Equality” label, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 201-300 globally, 6th among universities in Turkey, and 3rd among foundation universities.

With the “6-Clean Water and Sanitation” label, the UN aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Our university, with its activities carried out under this label, ranked between 401-600 globally, 15th among universities in Turkey, and 3rd among foundation universities.

The “7-Affordable and Clean Energy” label evaluates institutions' activities in this area with the aim of ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Under this label, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 301-400 globally, 12th among universities in Turkey, and 3rd among foundation universities.

The “8-Decent Work and Economic Growth” label aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. With its academic, social, and stakeholder-related activities in this scope, it ranked between 801-1000 globally, 28th among universities in Turkey, and 8th among foundation universities.

The “9-Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure” label prioritizes supporting the UN's activities in this area with the aim of building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. With its activities in 2023, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 601-800 globally, 39th among universities in Turkey, and 9th among foundation universities.

The “10-Reduced Inequalities” label aims to reduce inequalities within and among countries, and universities' support activities for this goal are crucial for economic, cultural, and social development. With its activities under this label, it ranked between 301-400 globally, 16th among universities in Turkey, and 5th among foundation universities.

The “11-Sustainable Cities and Communities” label aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. Within this scope, activities carried out at Üsküdar Üniversitesi resulted in a global ranking between 601-800, 24th among universities in Turkey, and 6th among foundation universities.

The “12-Responsible Consumption and Production” label aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, and it supports and monitors institutions' activities in this area. With its activities in 2023, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 401-600 globally, 24th among universities in Turkey, and 6th among foundation universities.

The “13-Climate Action” label is among the UN's high-priority labels and aims for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Üsküdar Üniversitesi has been meticulously conducting climate-focused studies for many years, and with its activities in 2023, it ranked between 401-600 globally, 16th among universities in Turkey, and 3rd among foundation universities.

The “14-Life Below Water” label aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. With its activities related to life below water, alongside protecting terrestrial ecosystems, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 201-300 globally, 5th among universities in Turkey, and 1st among foundation universities.

The “15-Life on Land” label aims to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems; sustainably manage forests; combat desertification; halt and reverse land degradation; and halt biodiversity loss, drawing institutions' attention and supporting their activities with this sensitivity. With its activities under this label, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 401-600 globally, 20th among universities in Turkey, and 3rd among foundation universities.

While the “16-Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” label aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked 101 globally in 2023 under this label. In the 2024 global rankings, Üsküdar Üniversitesi placed between 401-600, ranking 12th among universities in Turkey and 6th among foundation universities in this label.

The “17-Partnerships for the Goals” label is the UN's final sustainable development goal, aiming to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Through a holistic evaluation covering this label and the preceding 16 labels, Üsküdar Üniversitesi ranked between 601-800 globally, 17th among universities in Turkey, and 6th among foundation universities.

Research, education, governance, and impact beyond borders 

The ranking, conducted by Times Higher Education (THE) in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations, evaluates all university activities under the headings of research, education, governance, and strategies for having an impact beyond borders within these development goals. According to the Overall Score results obtained with weighted scores, comprising 26% of the score from the 3 labels where universities received the highest points and 22% from the 17th label, which is a mandatory application label, our university is listed starting from the 801st position in the world rankings in this metric as well.
