The İLEDAK evaluation team, which conducts the accreditation evaluation processes for communication programs on behalf of the Communication Research Association (İLAD), paid an institutional visit to Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication.
During the institutional visit, which took place between December 24-26, 2023, and where the Radio, Television and Cinema, and Public Relations and Promotion programs of the Faculty of Communication were evaluated, the evaluation teams examined the faculty's educational facilities, and met with Üsküdar Üniversitesi administrators, faculty and department heads, academic staff, students, alumni, and external stakeholders.
Facility Visit on the First Day
The İLEDAK Evaluation Team, consisting of Team Head Prof. Dr. Senem Duruel Erkılıç and Co-Team Head Prof. Dr. Sevimece Karadoğan Doruk, Radio, Television and Cinema program evaluators Prof. Dr. Ruken Öztürk and Prof. Dr. Nihan Gider Işıkman, Public Relations and Promotion program evaluators Prof. Dr. Şebnem Çağlar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Akkaya, and student evaluator İlayda Dal, visited the Faculty of Communication on the first day of the visit. During this visit, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, first gave a presentation introducing the faculty. Subsequently, the Head of the Radio, Television and Cinema Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esennur Sirer, and the Head of the Public Relations and Promotion Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Uğurlu Akbaş, delivered presentations introducing their departments. The meeting, held in the faculty's foyer area, was attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, University Secretary General Selçuk Uysaler, Deputy Secretary General Asil Barış, Head of Human Resources Department Serdar Karagöz, Head of Corporate Communications Department Tahsin Aksu, Head of Information Technology Department Murat Gülşen, Head of Library and Documentation Department Sinan Eker, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Muratoğlu Pehlivan, Faculty Secretary Ayşe Gül Okkıran, and the academic staff of the departments.
Following the presentations, the evaluation team toured the faculty's computer labs, classrooms, workshops, academic staff offices, and television studios and gathered information about the facilities.
Meetings Held on the Second Day
The İLEDAK evaluation team completed the second day of the visit with document review and meetings. Team Head Prof. Dr. Senem Duruel Erkılıç and Co-Team Head Prof. Dr. Sevimece Karadoğan Doruk first met with Dean Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, and then with Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör and Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy and Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk. They then received information from the heads of the university's administrative units: Cumhur Bakır, Serdar Karagöz, Peyman Jaferi, Özcan Demir, Murat Gülşen, Tahsin Aksu, Sinan Eker, Remziye Çopur, and Ayşe Öztürk.
Radio, Television and Cinema program evaluators Prof. Dr. Ruken Öztürk and Prof. Dr. Nihan Gider Işıkman met with department head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esennur Sirer; Public Relations and Promotion program evaluators Prof. Dr. Şebnem Çağlar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Akkaya also met with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Uğurlu Akbaş. The program evaluators then held separate meetings with the academic staff, research assistants, students, alumni, and external stakeholders of the departments. Student evaluator İlayda Dal also held meetings with the students.
Evaluation Reports Presented at the Exit Meeting
On the third and final day of the institutional visit, the İLEDAK program evaluation teams read their reports based on their observations and evaluations at a meeting attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, and then handed over the relevant page of the reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan.
The university secretary general, department heads, department chairs, and academic staff of the departments were also present at the exit meeting.
Process Continues
In the next stage of the process, the İLEDAK management will review the report and submit it to the İLAD Board of Directors for a decision. The final decision regarding accreditation will be made by the İLAD Board of Directors, in light of the evaluation team's report and recommendations. The process is expected to be completed within two months.
